About this role.
CoderPad is hiring a Lead Software Engineer to lead hands-on full-stack feature development for its technical-interview platform. The role combines architecture ownership, coding, code review, automated testing, production deployment, and cross-functional planning with Product and Design. The successful candidate will have 6+ years of engineering experience and work with React, TypeScript, Java, Node.js or Ruby, SQL, AWS, Kubernetes, and GitLab. This France-based remote position operates on CET/CEST hours and requires effective asynchronous collaboration with EMEA and US colleagues. AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows are a core expected part of the engineering workflow.

Sample interview questions
I would clarify user outcomes, constraints, and success metrics with Product and Design, then propose a small set of technical options with trade-offs. I would define API and data-model boundaries, identify reliability and observability requirements, break delivery into incremental milestones, and validate the approach through review before implementation.
I use focused pull requests, meaningful automated tests, consistent review standards, and CI checks to catch issues early. I prioritize testing behavior and critical failure paths, use reusable patterns to reduce complexity, and address technical debt deliberately so speed does not create recurring operational cost.
I use them to accelerate boilerplate, test scaffolding, code exploration, refactoring proposals, documentation, and repetitive automation. I treat generated output as a starting point, validating security, correctness, performance, and alignment with existing architecture through normal engineering review and tests.
I ensure the service has actionable logs, metrics, alerts, dashboards, and documented rollback procedures before release. After deployment, I monitor user-facing and technical indicators, investigate regressions quickly, communicate status clearly, and feed lessons from incidents into design and operational improvements.
I document context, alternatives, trade-offs, and recommendations in concise decision records so colleagues can respond asynchronously. I invite relevant input early, make decisions transparent, and follow up with clear ownership and milestones while reserving synchronous discussion for high-risk or unresolved issues.
We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our EMEA Engineering team in France (remote).
What does a Lead Software Engineer at CoderPad do?
As a Lead Software Engineer at CoderPad, you’ll design, build, and ship features across our full stack — taking ownership of complex technical problems end to end and raising the engineering bar for the EMEA team. You’ll combine hands-on coding with technical leadership: driving architecture decisions, backlog grooming and planning with the Product Manager, making sure what we ship is reliable, scalable, and a pleasure for developers to use.
As the global leader in the technical interview space (4,000+ customers in 165+ countries) it is our goal as a Engineering team to build and scale the products that power millions of technical interviews and assessments worldwide.
This role is located in France and works standard CET / CEST hours, collaborating asynchronously with our distributed EMEA and US teams.
What you’ll be doing
Design and develop new full-stack features (React / TypeScript on the frontend, Java, Node.js, or Ruby on the backend) in collaboration with the Product Manager and the designer.
Use AI coding assistants and agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) as a core part of your workflow — to accelerate feature delivery, automate repetitive engineering tasks, and offload boilerplate so you can focus on design and review.
Contribute to architectural and technical design decisions within the team.
Write automated tests and ensure code quality through code reviews.
Deploy and monitor your own features in production (GitLab, AWS, Kubernetes).
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team’s engineering practices.
Partner with Product and other teams to scope, prioritise, and deliver impactful work.
What you should bring
6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including senior or lead-level ownership
Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Ruby, Node.js), a modern frontend framework (ideally React), and SQL. You don’t need to master all technologies from day one.
Solid experience designing scalable, reliable systems and conducting thorough code reviews.
Comfortable working autonomously in a distributed, remote-first environment.
Hands-on experience leveraging AI tools to ship faster — code generation, agentic workflows, scripting/automation, or building internal tooling on top of LLMs. We care about how effectively you use these tools, not which ones.
Professional working proficiency in English.
