About this role.
This SDET II role owns quality assurance for tvScientific’s web platform, including consumer-facing UI workflows, backend services, and APIs. The engineer will combine exploratory and regression testing with automated API and browser testing using tools such as Postman, REST-assured, Supertest, Playwright, or Cypress. Core work includes API contract and schema validation, frontend-backend integration testing, CI/CD test integration, defect investigation, and close collaboration with engineering and product partners. The position requires at least two years of quality-engineering experience, JavaScript or TypeScript proficiency, strong debugging skills, and responsible use and verification of AI-assisted work.

Sample interview questions
I would start by mapping the critical user journeys, service boundaries, expected data states, and failure modes. I would create a layered strategy: API tests for contracts, schemas, authorization, validation, and negative cases; UI tests for critical end-to-end workflows; and targeted manual exploratory testing for usability and edge conditions. I would prioritize high-risk paths, use stable test data, and add the automated checks to CI so regressions are identified early.
I first determine whether the failure is reproducible and review logs, screenshots, traces, network activity, test data, and recent code or environment changes. I separate product defects from flaky synchronization, dependency, environment, or test-isolation issues. Once the cause is identified, I fix the underlying issue rather than simply increasing retries, then verify the fix through repeated runs and document any remaining operational risk.
API contract testing verifies that an API continues to meet its agreed interface, including endpoint behavior, request and response schemas, status codes, authentication, and error formats. It is important because frontend and backend teams can evolve independently, and a contract break can disrupt a user flow even when each component appears to work in isolation. I would automate both positive and negative contract checks and run them consistently in the delivery pipeline.
I automate stable, repeatable, high-value checks such as smoke tests, regression scenarios, API validation, and core end-to-end flows. I use manual and exploratory testing for new or rapidly changing functionality, visual and usability assessment, unusual edge cases, and areas where requirements are still being clarified. The decision should consider risk, execution frequency, maintenance cost, observability, and the likelihood of defects.
I might use AI to accelerate draft test cases, generate edge-case ideas, summarize logs, or suggest automation scaffolding. However, I would validate outputs against requirements, API specifications, source behavior, and actual test results before relying on them. I would avoid exposing sensitive data, retain ownership of the final decision, and treat AI-generated work as a starting point rather than an authoritative answer.
