About this role.

AI Summary

This Forward Deployed Engineer embeds with enterprise client teams to diagnose operational problems, redesign workflows and operating models, and accelerate AI adoption. The role combines management-consulting capabilities with hands-on development of AI-powered proofs of concept using LLM APIs, platform features, and low-code or no-code tools. Success depends on independently shipping practical prototypes, establishing measurement frameworks, and aligning senior stakeholders around measurable ROI. It is a senior, client-facing transformation role requiring 5–10 years of relevant consulting, enterprise technology, SaaS, or professional-services experience.

Sample interview questions
Describe a time you diagnosed a broken enterprise workflow and improved it.

I would begin by mapping the end-to-end process, quantifying baseline cycle time, error rates, handoffs, and decision delays. I would validate root causes with frontline users and leaders, redesign the highest-impact steps, pilot the change, and track agreed metrics to demonstrate sustained improvement.

How would you decide whether AI is appropriate for a client workflow?

I would assess the workflow's volume, repeatability, data quality, exception rate, risk profile, and the cost of human review. AI is appropriate when it can improve a measurable outcome with appropriate controls; otherwise, I would recommend simpler process, policy, or tooling changes first.

How do you build an AI proof of concept quickly without sacrificing practical usefulness?

I would define one narrow user journey, a measurable hypothesis, and clear guardrails before building. I would use available LLM APIs and platform capabilities to create a functional prototype, test it on realistic inputs with users, and iterate based on accuracy, usability, and business-impact evidence.

How do you influence senior stakeholders who are skeptical about an AI transformation initiative?

I would avoid abstract technology claims and lead with the stakeholder's operational and financial priorities. A transparent baseline, a small working demo in their actual process, clear risk controls, and a realistic value case create more credibility than a broad roadmap alone.

What would you include in an operating model for a newly AI-enabled process?

I would define process ownership, decision rights, roles, escalation paths, governance, data and model controls, human-review responsibilities, enablement needs, and success metrics. I would also specify how performance will be monitored and how the organization will improve the workflow after rollout.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to sit at the core of enterprise transformation engagements, directly embedding with client teams to redesign workflows, establish operating models, and drive technology adoption. This is a highly hands-on, consultative role where you will conduct organizational diagnostics and rapidly build functional, AI-powered proofs of concept to demonstrate real-world value. The ideal candidate is a proactive diagnostician and builder who blends management consulting expertise with the technical capability to ship working prototypes autonomously, ultimately accelerating business adoption and delivering measurable ROI.

Responsibilities

  • Map current-state workflows end-to-end to diagnose root causes of operational friction, including handoff failures, governance gaps, and tooling mismatches.

  • Redesign target-state operations for leaner workflows, clearer decision rights, and effective human-agent collaboration to accelerate throughput using AI.

  • Design comprehensive operating models, including organizational structure, roles, governance, cross-functional interaction models, and value realization.

  • Establish performance baselines and build measurement frameworks that track improvement continuously throughout the engagement.

  • Identify value gaps in stalled implementations, diagnosing where technology deployment has outpaced business adoption to restore the path to ROI.

  • Build working, AI-powered prototypes directly utilizing LLM APIs, platform-native features, and low-code/no-code environments to create functional solutions.

  • Utilize working demos and prototypes as the primary tool for stakeholder alignment directly within the client’s actual processes.

  • Evaluate where AI practically enhances a workflow versus where it serves as a distraction, advising clients with realistic, grounded expectations.

  • Support the rollout of new tools and workflows, ensuring adoption is rooted in process design and change management.

  • Design enablement materials that ensure new technology implementations effectively connect to and support the intended operating model.

  • Support complex engagement scoping and conduct diagnostic assessments for value capture, implementation readiness, and adoption strategy.

  • Contribute reusable frameworks and tools that continuously improve practice qualification and scoping.

Qualifications and Job Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in management consulting or equivalent roles within enterprise technology, SaaS, or professional services.

  • Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas: organizational design, operating model transformation, change management, technology enablement, process engineering, or go-to-market execution.

  • Proven track record of building structured, evidence-based arguments to effectively influence and align senior stakeholders.

  • Hands-on experience building functional AI-powered workflows, automations, and prototypes, with the ability to ship working solutions rather than just designing them.

  • Ability to rapidly scope and build a working proof of concept within the constraints of a client engagement to move skeptical stakeholders.

  • Comfort and capability working autonomously without a dedicated engineering team, knowing exactly when to build solutions independently and when to pull in additional resources.

  • Strong diagnostic mindset with a dedication to understanding root causes and broken processes before jumping to solutions.

  • Deep accountability to actual outcomes and measurable impact rather than just static deliverables.

  • Bias toward early proof, preferring to build working prototypes over producing standard roadmaps.

  • Ability to operate effectively in a forward-deployed capacity, integrating deeply alongside client engineers, product leads, and operators.

  • Experience in large-scale organizational assessments, process redesigns, or large-scale technology rollouts is highly preferred.
