About this role.
This is a senior hands-on Software Architect role for a GovTech SaaS platform, responsible for setting architecture and engineering standards across products and teams. The position centers on C#, .NET Core, Angular, distributed systems, cloud-native SaaS design, and AWS or Azure. The architect will lead adoption of microservices, DDD, CQRS, event-driven systems, API-first practices, and improvements to performance, security, and observability. The role also requires mentoring senior engineers and collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, DevOps, and other architects. An AI-first engineering culture expects daily use of tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot, plus familiarity with LLM, RAG, MCP, and agentic workflows.

Sample interview questions
I would begin with domain and dependency mapping to identify bounded contexts, critical workflows, and high-risk integration points. I would use an incremental strangler approach, extracting capabilities with clear business boundaries behind stable APIs while maintaining observability, contract testing, rollback plans, and data-migration controls.
I use CQRS where read and write models have materially different scaling, performance, or complexity needs, and events where asynchronous domain integration provides decoupling and resilience. Key safeguards include idempotent consumers, versioned schemas, retry and dead-letter handling, correlation IDs, eventual-consistency communication, and strong operational monitoring.
I establish lightweight, documented guardrails such as reference architectures, ADRs, API and security standards, reusable platform components, and automated quality checks. Teams retain implementation ownership, while an architecture forum and targeted design reviews handle decisions with significant cross-team, security, reliability, or cost impact.
I would standardize structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, service-level indicators, and dashboards around customer-critical workflows. I would define actionable alerts tied to service objectives, propagate correlation IDs across APIs and messaging, and ensure teams use telemetry during incident reviews to prioritize reliability improvements.
I would set clear approved-tool, data-handling, and access-control policies before broad adoption, ensuring sensitive information is not exposed to unapproved models. AI-generated output would remain subject to peer review, automated tests, security scanning, and ownership by the engineer, while measured pilots would validate productivity and quality gains.
