Sample interview questions
How would you investigate a recurring fault across a fleet of connected battery-storage installations?

I would first review remote system data, alarms, commissioning records, and site-specific patterns to identify common conditions. I would then prioritize safety and customer impact, validate likely causes through targeted site inspections, and document corrective actions. If a systemic issue emerged, I would work with engineering and suppliers to implement a controlled fix and update installation guidance.

Describe how you would ensure subcontractor work meets safety and quality standards.

I would establish clear installation standards, RAMS expectations, evidence requirements, and a risk-based audit process. Site inspections would check electrical safety, protection, labelling, testing results, commissioning, and documentation. I would provide actionable feedback, track recurring non-conformances, and use findings to improve training and processes.

What are the key considerations when commissioning a residential solar PV and battery-storage system?

I would verify design compliance, isolation and protection arrangements, cable sizing, earthing, inverter configuration, battery charging parameters, and communications. I would complete required inspection and test procedures, confirm G98/G99/G100 requirements where applicable, and validate system monitoring and export behavior. Finally, I would ensure records, handover information, and safety instructions are complete.

How have you created or improved a safe system of work for field electrical activities?

I begin by identifying hazards, affected people, controls, emergency actions, required competencies, and permit or isolation needs. I translate this assessment into practical RAMS that field teams can follow, then brief users and verify adoption through observation and audits. I revise the process when incidents, near misses, or operational feedback identify improvements.

How would you balance urgent maintenance work with supporting engineering on a new product installation process?

I would triage maintenance issues by safety, customer impact, and operational risk while maintaining transparent priorities with stakeholders. For the new product, I would schedule structured installation trials, capture observations and failure modes, and convert learning into repeatable instructions and checklists. This approach protects service quality while ensuring field insight accelerates a scalable product launch.
