About this role.

AI Summary

Ping Identity is hiring a Business Analyst for its Sales Engineering Operations team supporting cybersecurity and Identity & Access Management (IAM) demo prototypes. The role translates early sales plays, GTM inputs, and product ideas into developer-ready Jira stories, workflows, and visual user journeys. It also owns last-mile manual validation of IAM experiences, including device, browser, push-notification, and biometric verification scenarios. This is explicitly a business analysis career path rather than a software engineering role, with a rapid, iterative prototyping environment and significant cross-functional collaboration. Candidates need 2–5 years of relevant experience, strong technical storytelling, comfort with independent work, and practical use of approved GenAI tools.

Sample interview questions
How would you turn an early-stage sales play into developer-ready Jira stories?

I would first identify the target persona, business outcome, core scenario, assumptions, and success criteria. I would map the end-to-end user journey, clarify data inputs and system touchpoints with stakeholders, then write concise stories with acceptance criteria, dependencies, and examples that developers and sales engineers can validate together.

Describe how you would validate an IAM demo feature that includes mobile push approval and biometric identity verification.

I would define expected happy-path and failure-path behavior, prepare representative devices, browsers, accounts, and test data, and execute the journey from initiation through confirmation. I would document evidence, compare outcomes against acceptance criteria, log reproducible defects with context, and retest fixes before confirming the demo is ready.

How do you manage changing requirements in a rapid prototype environment?

I maintain a lightweight, visible backlog and continuously distinguish between the core demo outcome, must-have behaviors, and optional enhancements. I use short feedback loops with sales, product, and developers, document decisions and assumptions, and update stories promptly so the team can adapt without losing alignment.

How would you use GenAI responsibly in this role?

I would use approved tools to accelerate first drafts of user stories, workflow summaries, test cases, and meeting synthesis, while treating outputs as reviewable drafts rather than facts. I would avoid entering sensitive customer or security information into unapproved tools and would validate all generated content against stakeholder intent and product behavior.

What makes a prototype effective for a late-stage sales conversation or POC?

It must clearly demonstrate the buyer-relevant workflow, behave reliably in the critical path, and look polished enough to build confidence. I would prioritize realistic data, predictable setup, strong fallback handling, and validation of the channels and devices likely to be used during the demonstration.

We’re headquartered in Denver, Colorado and we have offices and employees around the globe. We serve the largest, most demanding enterprises worldwide, including more than half of the Fortune 100. At Ping Identity, we’re changing the way people and businesses think about cybersecurity, digital experiences, and identity and access management.

About The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, growth-minded Business Analyst to join our Sales Engineering Operations team within the Identity & Access Management (IAM) sector of cybersecurity. Our team is process-driven but agile in execution. We don’t work in rigid waterfall methods and long sign-off cycles; instead, we operate like a rapid prototyping squad. We engage early during New Product Introductions (NPIs) and changing GTM motions, building and iterating on functional prototypes in parallel with evolving requirements to quickly deliver production-grade software demos for late-stage sales conversations, live demos, and Proof of Concepts (POCs).

This role is heavily weighted toward Business Analysis, with a critical focus on technical validation. You will take early-stage sales stories, sales plays, and GTM requirements from stakeholders, synthesize them into developer-ready user stories, and personally act as the “last-mile” validator to ensure the final prototype successfully hits the mark.

Note on Career Path: This role is a dedicated career path as a Business Analyst in Cyber Security and Identity & Access Management (IAM). It is not a software engineering or developer-track position.

You Will

  • Translate Sales Logic into Developer Stories: Partner with sales engineering stakeholders, product teams, and GTM teams to capture loose, early-stage feature ideas. You will translate these sales stories and plays into clear, functional user stories and workflows in Jira.
  • Drive Iterative Prototyping Loops: Rather than relying on traditional, slow Functional Requirement Documents (FRDs), you will use strong storytelling and visual mapping skills to help the team rapidly iterate on mockups and prototypes to drive visuals and context, successfully bypassing “design by committee” bottlenecks. We focus on working software over comprehensive documentation.
  • Responsible AI Utilization: Proactively and responsibly utilize company-approved AI tools to maximize your day-to-day delivery speed, accelerate your documentation workflows, and generate user flows rapidly.
  • Execute Last-Mile Human Validation: Because the person who designs the requirements best understands the success criteria, you will handle the manual testing of complex IAM features that code pipelines cannot automate. This includes real-world, out-of-band verification events like mobile push notifications and biometric/selfie identity verifications.
  • Maintain Demo Readiness: Coordinate immediate feedback loops between developers and sales stakeholders to ensure pre-v1.0 prototypes are highly functional and polished enough for live sales demonstrations.
  • Maintain awareness of current sales and sales engineering processes: Aligning approaches and business outcomes, advocating improvements where necessary.

You Have

  • 2–5 Years of Experience: Foundational experience in a business analysis, tech support, or systems analysis environment. You should be comfortable working independently without requiring constant day-to-day mentoring.
  • Strong Technical Storytelling: An ability to take loose, early-stage business inputs (sales plays, product, and marketing info) and structure them into clear, logical data flows or step-by-step user journeys for developers.
  • Device-Savvy Problem Solving: A natural curiosity for testing how applications behave across multiple platforms, physical mobile devices, and browsers.
  • No Coding Required: Programming skills are not required for this role. Instead, practical GenAI experience is.
  • The Bonuses (Instant Standouts):
    • Familiarity with, or exposure to, Identity & Access Management (IAM) or Cyber Security concepts (This will get you to the front of the line).
    • Strong experience with crafting lean, context-driven prompts and leveraging AI as a daily force multiplier.
    • Familiarity with sales environments, sales engineering, or customer-facing technology roles.
