The role manages a distributed organization of more than 25 people, reports to the CEO, and represents technology and product direction to the board. It requires unusually deep hands-on expertise in web scraping, proxy networks, anti-bot evasion, and high-scale infrastructure alongside product leadership. The position is remote within Europe and emphasizes autonomy, operational responsiveness, and post-acquisition platform consolidation.

Sample interview questions
How would you create a unified product and technology roadmap for ScraperAPI, SerpWow, and Rainforest API after the acquisition?

I would begin with a customer, revenue, and platform assessment to identify shared users, overlapping capabilities, technical dependencies, and the highest-value integration opportunities. I would then define a small set of platform principles, such as common authentication, observability, data contracts, and reliability standards, and sequence work into customer-safe milestones. The roadmap would balance immediate reliability and capacity improvements with longer-term product convergence and AI-native differentiation.

Describe how you would respond when a major scraping source changes its defenses and affects customer data delivery overnight.

I would activate a clear incident process that establishes ownership, assesses customer impact, and prioritizes mitigation paths across proxy capacity, fingerprinting, request behavior, and fallback data strategies. I would keep commercial and support teams informed with factual updates and realistic recovery expectations. After restoration, I would lead a blameless review to strengthen monitoring, source-specific resilience, and preventative engineering practices.

How do you lead a distributed product and engineering organization while retaining enough technical depth to challenge architecture decisions?

I set measurable outcomes and decision rights for leaders, establish strong operating cadences around reliability, delivery, and product metrics, and use written communication to maintain alignment across time zones. I stay close to architecture through periodic design reviews, incident reviews, customer escalations, and direct engagement with technical leads. This provides technical context without undermining management ownership or creating unnecessary bottlenecks.

What is your approach to incorporating AI and ML into both the product and engineering workflow?

I would prioritize AI investments where they create measurable customer or operational value, such as extraction quality, anomaly detection, source-change classification, or workflow automation. For the engineering organization, I would establish secure, governed standards for AI-assisted development, testing, documentation, and operational analysis. Each initiative would have clear quality, cost, reliability, and adoption metrics rather than being pursued solely because it uses AI.

How would you communicate a difficult trade-off between product growth initiatives and infrastructure reliability to the CEO and board?

I would frame the decision in business terms: customer impact, revenue risk or upside, engineering capacity, timing, and the consequences of deferral. I would present options with explicit assumptions, including a recommended path that protects critical reliability thresholds while preserving strategic momentum. I would then provide transparent follow-up reporting against the agreed milestones and leading indicators.

This role is part of our ScraperAPI team, one of our growing brands at saas.group.

ScraperAPI is an enterprise-scale web scraping solution, trusted by businesses across a wide range of industries to extract crucial data at scale. From e-commerce, travel to real estate and market research, we support companies in turning the web into actionable insights. We’re currently on an exciting growth journey, scaling rapidly as demand for reliable, high-performance web scraping and data keeps rising.

Profile Overview

We recently acquired Traject Data, home of SerpWow and Rainforest API, and now run an end-to-end data pipeline: from proxy and scraping infrastructure through to structured, ready-to-use data APIs. The next chapter is turning that into one coherent, AI-native platform and we’re looking for a CTPO to lead the combined 25-person product and engineering org through it. You’ll report directly to the CEO, sit at the leadership table, and be the person who understands the stack down to the proxy layer while also setting where the product goes next.

Your immediate impact in the first 3-6 months will be:

  • Get hands-on with the heart of the product: proxy dynamics and anti-bot evasion, working directly with our Head of Ops to optimise vendor relationships and build up capacity.
  • Build real fluency in the product and the backend so you can operate as a genuine technical sparring partner to the CEO, not just receive direction.
  • Start bringing the ScraperAPI and Traject Data infrastructure together on a coherent technical roadmap

Your responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end product and technology strategy across our scraping infrastructure, proxy networks, and structured data API products (ScraperAPI, SerpWow, Rainforest API).
  • Lead, scale, and develop a 25+ person product and engineering organisation spanning multiple countries and time zones, building the management structure it needs as it grows.
  • Set technical architecture direction for high-scale, high-reliability infrastructure, including proxy management, anti-bot evasion, and large-scale scraping systems.
  • Drive AI and modern ML tooling into both the product itself and how the team builds and ships it.
  • Define and execute one product roadmap across the merged ScraperAPI and Traject Data lines.
  • Represent product and technology to the board, and work closely with the CEO and commercial leadership to keep product direction and business strategy aligned.
  • Stay close enough to the code and infrastructure to go in and troubleshoot, fix, or challenge a technical decision yourself when it matters.

What You bring to the table

  • Experience leading product and/or engineering at a highly technical company (CTO, CPO, VP Engineering or similar), at a 25+ person org or larger
  • Real hands-on depth in web scraping, proxies, or closely adjacent infrastructure. You understand the operational reality of this space and you don’t rattle when a source breaks overnight and it’s suddenly all hands on deck
  • A genuine track record with AI/ML, both shaping AI-powered product capability and pushing AI-native ways of working through an engineering team
  • Experience owning product vision and technical architecture together, not just one side of that line
  • Comfort operating at board level: a clear communicator who can hold their own with an ambitious, hands-on CEO and knows when to push back
  • Bonus: experience integrating product lines after a merger or acquisition

What’s in it for You

  • Ultimate flexibility: We’re 100% remote. You can work from wherever you like, whenever you like.
  • Freedom and autonomy: We’re a high-trust team, and you’ll be given lots of flexibility to solve problems in your own way, with plenty of help from the team when you need it.
  • Minimum bureaucracy: We don’t like to get bogged down with meetings and red tape. We like to be efficient and keep momentum steady & sustainable.
  • Small & friendly team: We help each other out, have fun, and joke around.
  • Our network: We are a community of entrepreneurial SaaS professionals that regularly exchange ideas, knowledge, learning and expertise with each other internally.
  • Flexible time off: We want you to recharge your batteries when needed.
