Sample interview questions
I would begin with the company’s growth, safety, unit-economics, and customer-outcome goals, then map the critical user and operational journeys that influence those outcomes. I would use quantitative data, field research, and stakeholder input to identify constraints and opportunities, establish clear investment themes, and sequence initiatives by impact, risk, and dependencies. The roadmap would include measurable outcomes, explicit tradeoffs, and regular reviews to adapt as fleet and market conditions change.
I establish clear operating principles, decision rights, role expectations, and a consistent planning cadence before scaling headcount. I invest in strong leaders, define shared product and design standards, and create mechanisms for teams to surface evidence and resolve tradeoffs quickly. During periods of change, I communicate the rationale for priorities directly, protect teams from unnecessary churn, and use outcome metrics to determine where to continue, adjust, or stop investments.
I would treat safety and reliability as non-negotiable product requirements rather than downstream operational concerns. Product decisions would be evaluated through a shared scorecard covering customer experience, safety events, service reliability, operational cost, and fleet performance. I would ensure that design, engineering, operations, and safety teams are involved early in discovery and validation so that customer-facing experiences remain intuitive without introducing unacceptable real-world risk.
I would define the customer problem, strategic hypothesis, and expected business impact before assessing technical feasibility. The evaluation would include market demand, operational implications, safety considerations, scalability, development cost, and clear leading and lagging indicators. I would favor staged experimentation with decision gates, allowing the company to learn quickly while reserving larger investments for capabilities that demonstrate meaningful customer and business value.
I communicate with a concise narrative that connects the decision to company goals, customer evidence, alternatives considered, risks, and expected outcomes. I tailor the level of detail to the audience while being transparent about uncertainty and dependencies. For difficult tradeoffs, I make the decision criteria explicit, explain what will not be prioritized, and establish the metrics and review points that will validate or challenge the chosen path.
