Sample interview questions
How would you build a paid-search strategy for a new enterprise ecommerce client?

I would begin with discovery around commercial goals, margins, inventory, audience segments, seasonality, and measurement maturity. I would then audit account structure and historical performance, define channel and campaign priorities, establish budget and bidding plans, and agree on KPIs such as revenue, ROAS, new-customer acquisition, or profit contribution. Finally, I would present a phased testing roadmap with clear reporting cadence and decision rules.

How do you diagnose a decline in ROAS while spend remains flat?

I would segment the change by platform, campaign, device, audience, product category, geography, and time period to isolate the source. I would check conversion tracking, attribution-window changes, feed quality, pricing and inventory, competitive pressure, search-query quality, and landing-page performance. Based on the evidence, I would prioritize corrective actions such as query refinement, budget reallocation, bid changes, creative testing, or product-feed improvements.

Describe how you forecast and manage an advertising budget across multiple campaigns.

I use historical conversion rates, CPCs, seasonality, inventory constraints, and target efficiency metrics to model expected spend and returns. I set daily and weekly pacing guardrails, monitor variance against plan, and reallocate investment toward campaigns with the strongest incremental opportunity. I also communicate assumptions and risks clearly so stakeholders understand when forecasts need to be revised.

How would you explain attribution limitations to a non-technical client stakeholder?

I would explain that attribution is a decision-support model rather than a perfect record of every touchpoint that influenced a purchase. I would use a simple example to show how last-click and multi-touch methods can assign credit differently, then recommend using consistent reporting definitions alongside experiments or blended business metrics. This keeps the discussion focused on making better investment decisions rather than claiming false precision.

How have you used AI tools to improve advertising operations without sacrificing quality?

I use AI to accelerate research, summarize platform changes, draft reporting narratives, identify anomalies, document processes, and generate initial testing hypotheses. I validate all outputs against source data, platform policy, brand requirements, and business context before acting on them. This approach reduces repetitive work while preserving human judgment for strategic recommendations and client-facing decisions.
