Sample interview questions
How would you assess personal income tax and social-security exposure when a client employs workers across several countries?

I would first map the worker locations, employment arrangements, payroll setup, compensation components, and applicable local registrations. I would then identify jurisdiction-specific income-tax withholding, social-security, reporting, and permanent-establishment considerations, prioritize material risks, and document practical remediation steps with local advisers and payroll partners.

Describe your approach to evaluating tax-efficient salary, benefit, and equity arrangements internationally.

I compare the treatment of cash salary, allowances, benefits in kind, and equity in each relevant jurisdiction, while considering employer cost, employee net pay, reporting requirements, and legal constraints. I present options clearly, identify assumptions and risk levels, and ensure that any proposed structure is operationally feasible for payroll.

How do you communicate a complex international tax issue to a non-tax client or internal stakeholder?

I start with the business impact and recommended action, then explain the technical reasoning in plain language. I use concise written summaries, country-specific examples where useful, and clearly distinguish mandatory actions, risk-mitigation options, and items requiring local legal or tax advice.

Tell us about a time you managed multiple urgent advisory requests involving large datasets.

I would prioritize requests according to legal risk, payroll deadlines, financial impact, and stakeholder dependencies. I use structured trackers and data validation checks to maintain accuracy, provide early status updates, and create reusable analyses or templates to reduce recurring manual work.

How would you create scalable documentation for recurring customer questions on personal tax and social security?

I would analyze incoming questions for common themes, validate country guidance with reliable sources and local experts, and build standardized playbooks with scope notes, decision trees, escalation criteria, and update ownership. I would review usage data and regulatory changes regularly so the documentation remains accurate and useful.
