The role, at a glance.
Infisical is hiring its first Strategic Finance professional to establish and scale the company’s end-to-end finance function at a high-growth B2B SaaS and security infrastructure startup. The role owns operational finance, including AP/AR, vendor management, reimbursements, monthly close, revenue recognition, reporting, and multi-jurisdiction tax and compliance activities. It also leads forecasting, cash and runway analysis, headcount planning, scenario modeling, fundraising support, investor reporting, diligence, and board materials. This is a highly visible individual-contributor role partnering directly with founders and cross-functional leaders across sales, marketing, and operations. Success requires strong accounting rigor alongside strategic modeling skills and the autonomy to design scalable processes from scratch.

Sample interview questions
I would begin with a driver-based model connecting ARR, pipeline conversion, churn, pricing, billing terms, collections, gross margin, headcount, and operating expenses. I would reconcile the model to current cash and the general ledger, then develop base, upside, and downside scenarios with explicit assumptions. I would review runway monthly and highlight the key decisions that change it, such as hiring pace, collection timing, spend controls, and fundraising timing.
I would first map the existing close calendar, systems, reconciliations, owners, and recurring bottlenecks. I would prioritize a documented close checklist, clear account ownership, timely AP cutoffs, balance-sheet reconciliations, and variance review procedures. The objective is to improve accuracy and consistency first, then shorten the close timeline through automation and better upstream processes.
I would model the fully loaded cost, timing, expected productivity ramp, and expected business impact of each proposed role. I would assess hiring against cash runway, budget, revenue plans, and strategic priorities, then compare an accelerated plan with a phased or delayed alternative. I would present leadership with the trade-offs and sensitivity to assumptions rather than treating the decision as solely a budget question.
I would include ARR and revenue performance versus plan, bookings, pipeline and conversion trends, gross margin, customer retention metrics, burn, runway, cash flow, headcount, and operating expense trends. I would also provide forecast-versus-actual variance explanations, key risks, and scenario-based outlooks. The package should focus on the metrics and decisions that show business health and funding needs clearly.
I communicate early, directly, and with a concise explanation of the underlying drivers and the confidence level of the forecast. I quantify the impact, distinguish controllable from external factors, and provide practical response options with their trade-offs. This keeps the conversation focused on decisions and accountability rather than on reporting a problem after it has become difficult to address.
