Sample interview questions
I would first map the end-to-end journey, integrations, data states, and critical failure points. I would prioritize coverage by customer impact and risk, then define functional, API, negative-path, device/browser, data-integrity, and regression scenarios with clear entry and exit criteria.
I begin by collecting exact steps, environment details, timestamps, user context, and expected versus actual behavior. I then correlate application and backend logs, network requests, API responses, feature flags, and relevant data records to narrow the conditions, document evidence, and partner with engineering on root cause and verification.
I validate authentication, request structure, status codes, response schema, business rules, error handling, boundary values, and idempotency where relevant. I also confirm that API actions create or update the correct downstream data and that unauthorized or malformed requests fail safely.
I use a risk-based approach focused on changed components, critical user journeys, high-volume workflows, recent defect areas, and key integrations. I communicate residual risk clearly, execute the highest-value tests first, and ensure any deferred coverage is visible and tracked.
I engage during refinement and planning to clarify acceptance criteria, identify edge cases, review dependencies, and highlight testability or observability gaps. By raising risks early and agreeing on measurable quality expectations, I help the team prevent defects rather than only detect them late in the cycle.

- API & Backend Testing – Perform API validation, data integrity checks, and business logic testing.
- Regression Coverage – Execute cross-platform regression testing prior to releases to ensure stability.
- Issue Investigation – Diagnose defects using logs, network tools, and API inspection techniques.
- Defect Lifecycle Management – Document, prioritize, and track defects while partnering with engineers on root-cause resolution.
- Environment Management – Maintain test environments, device coverage, and reliable platform test data.
- Risk Identification – Proactively surface quality risks during sprint planning and release cycles.
Here’s What You’ll Need To Be Successful:
- Cross-Platform Testing Experience – Demonstrated experience testing Mobile, Web, and/or backend systems.
- API Validation Expertise – Strong experience validating RESTful APIs and backend business logic.
- SDLC/STLC Knowledge – Solid understanding of software and testing lifecycle best practices.
- Testing Tool Proficiency – Hands-on experience with API testing tools such as Postman (or similar platforms).
- Technical Acumen – Ability to understand system architecture, integrations, and data flow.
- Startup Adaptability – Comfortable operating in a remote, fast-paced, and evolving environment.
- Ownership Mindset – High level of accountability with strong independent execution.
- Clear Communication – Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Interview Process:
- Your application will be reviewed for possible next steps by the Hiring Manager.
- If you meet eligibility requirements, the next step would be a video interview with a member of the PeopleOps team for about thirty (30) minutes.
- If warranted, the next step would be a technical video interview with our QA Lead and QA Engineer for one (1) hour
- If warranted, the next step would be a final live technical assessment with our QA Lead and QA Engineer for one (1) hour
