Sample interview questions
How have you built and coached a high-performing technical customer-facing team?

I set clear expectations around customer outcomes, technical quality, collaboration, and career growth. I use regular one-on-ones, deal and account reviews, skills-based coaching plans, and recognition practices, while addressing performance concerns early with specific, compassionate feedback.

How would you partner with Sales on a complex enterprise opportunity?

I would align early on customer priorities, stakeholders, business value, technical risks, and decision criteria. From there, I would assign the right technical resources, establish a mutual action plan, inspect progress through regular reviews, and ensure our solution narrative connects architecture choices to measurable outcomes.

Describe how you would handle a customer escalation involving adoption risk and technical uncertainty.

I would quickly establish facts, business impact, ownership, and a communication cadence. I would bring together the required Field Engineering, Support, Product, and Services partners, define near-term mitigation and longer-term remediation, and keep the customer informed with clear milestones and accountable owners.

How do you maintain technical credibility while managing rather than individually delivering every engagement?

I stay close to strategic accounts, architecture reviews, recurring technical themes, and product changes without becoming a bottleneck. I invest in continuous learning, ask probing questions during deal reviews, and use those insights to coach the team on sound technical judgment and effective customer storytelling.

What operating metrics would you use to manage a Field Engineering organization?

I would combine quantitative and qualitative signals: coverage and capacity, opportunity stage health, technical-win progress, customer adoption indicators, escalation trends, forecast risk, team retention, and development progress. The goal is not to manage by dashboards alone, but to use evidence to surface blockers and prioritize actions.
