Sample interview questions
I would begin by aligning on the bank's business model, target digital-asset activities, regulatory perimeter, and engagement outcomes. I would then map current workflows, systems, controls, owners, and evidence requirements through interviews with compliance, risk, operations, and technology stakeholders. I would document pain points in the client's terminology, identify control gaps and priorities, and convert findings into a phased recommendation with clear deliverables, owners, and timelines.
I would start with the business impact, regulatory exposure, and decision required rather than technical detail. I would use a concise narrative supported by a small number of risk-based options, their trade-offs, and a recommended path. Detailed regulatory citations, technical architecture, and implementation evidence would be available in an appendix for the teams that need them.
I would clarify the underlying problem, success criteria, regulatory driver, and urgency before committing to a solution. If the request is outside current capability, I would distinguish between an advisory deliverable, a feasible product configuration, and a roadmap opportunity. I would set transparent expectations with the client and bring a structured problem statement and evidence to Product and Business Development.
I would define the applicable regime and the client's proposed activities, governance model, controls, and operational footprint. I would assess policies, procedures, transaction monitoring, custody arrangements, AML controls, incident response, outsourcing, recordkeeping, and management oversight against the relevant requirements. The output would prioritize gaps by regulatory and business risk, with practical remediation actions, accountable owners, and an implementation sequence.
I establish a clear workplan, decision log, stakeholder map, and regular client and internal checkpoints at the outset. I provide concise written updates that identify completed work, blockers, decisions needed, and upcoming milestones. This creates accountability locally while ensuring Product, Business Development, and subject-matter experts across time zones can contribute effectively.
