Sample interview questions
I have managed end-to-end sourcing from technical requirements and supplier selection through commercial negotiation, purchase execution, delivery tracking, and escalation management. In constrained markets, I prioritize early demand visibility, supplier allocation commitments, qualified alternatives, and transparent risk reporting to protect deployment timelines.
I would begin with a clear forecast, deployment schedule, technical configuration, and total demand outlook. I would use this information to negotiate allocation, lead-time commitments, pricing protections, delivery milestones, service terms, and escalation paths, while maintaining qualified secondary options to reduce single-source risk.
I would track demand versus confirmed supply, purchase-order status, supplier commit dates, lead times, on-time delivery, cost variance, inventory coverage, critical shortages, open escalations, and risks to site go-live milestones. The dashboard should clearly assign owners and next actions for every exception.
For live operations, continuity and service risk take priority over small unit-cost savings. I use critical-spares policies, reorder thresholds, lead-time analysis, approved alternates, and expedited-procurement playbooks so that maintenance needs can be met without compromising reliability.
I would quickly validate the shortage and its impact, establish an executive escalation with the supplier, and request a recovery plan with committed quantities and dates. In parallel, I would assess alternative configurations, substitute suppliers, inventory reallocation, and phased deployment options with engineering and operations, then communicate decision-ready tradeoffs to stakeholders.
