Sample interview questions
How have you owned the monthly accruals process in a prior role?

I reviewed purchase orders, contracts, invoices, and service periods to identify incurred but unbilled costs. I prepared support for each accrual, recorded or proposed journal entries, reconciled reversals in the following period, and documented assumptions for reviewer and audit visibility.

Describe how you would investigate a financial-statement balance that does not tie to its supporting workbook.

I would first isolate the variance by account, entity, period, and source report. I would trace formulas and linked data back to the general ledger and source documentation, test for timing, mapping, rounding, or manual-entry differences, then correct the root cause and retain a clear audit trail of the resolution.

What is your approach to preparing audit support efficiently?

I begin with the audit request list and map each request to an owner, source system, and due date. I prepare clearly labeled workpapers that reconcile to the trial balance, include source documents and explanations, perform a self-review, and track open questions so the auditors receive complete and consistent evidence.

How have you used Excel to review complex accounting workbooks created by others?

I use formula auditing, trace precedents and dependents, pivot tables, and lookup functions to understand data flow and test calculations. I validate key totals against source reports and the general ledger, identify hard-coded assumptions, and document any changes so the workbook remains transparent for future reviewers.

How would you manage a strict US Central Time schedule while working remotely from the Philippines?

I would maintain a dedicated overnight work routine aligned to the required Philippine Standard Time shift and plan recurring close activities around US stakeholder availability. I would provide timely status updates, flag blockers early, and keep organized documentation so progress remains visible despite the time-zone difference.
