Sample interview questions
How do you balance legal risk with business objectives when advising on a sensitive employee-relations matter?

I begin by establishing the relevant facts, applicable law, company policy, and potential employee-experience impact. I then present decision-makers with clear, practical options that explain legal exposure, operational considerations, and recommended safeguards, enabling a defensible decision aligned with the business's values.

Describe your approach to conducting a workplace investigation involving allegations of harassment or retaliation.

I define the allegation scope, preserve privilege where appropriate, identify relevant documents and witnesses, and create a structured investigation plan. I conduct impartial interviews, assess credibility against corroborating evidence, document findings carefully, and provide recommendations on corrective action, remediation, and retaliation monitoring.

How would you manage employment-law compliance across multiple international jurisdictions?

I would use a risk-based framework that identifies material jurisdictional requirements, assigns accountable stakeholders, and relies on qualified local counsel for country-specific advice. I would then convert that advice into scalable policies, templates, training, and tracking tools while maintaining a process for monitoring legal changes.

What is your strategy for managing an employment claim or pre-litigation demand?

I would promptly assess the factual record, legal theories, preservation needs, potential exposure, and business objectives. In partnership with internal stakeholders and outside counsel, I would establish a litigation or resolution strategy, manage discovery and communications, and regularly reassess settlement options as new information becomes available.

How have you made legal guidance more accessible to non-legal stakeholders?

I use plain language, decision trees, checklists, model communications, and concise playbooks tailored to the stakeholder's workflow. For recurring issues, I pair self-service resources with targeted training so managers and People partners can make consistent decisions while escalating higher-risk matters early.
