Sample interview questions
How do you assess whether a submitted stamp lot is suitable for a Catawiki auction?

I would review authenticity indicators, condition, rarity, provenance, catalogue references, image quality, and expected buyer demand. I would then compare the lot with recent market results and ensure the listing gives bidders transparent, accurate information.

How would you estimate the value of a stamp collection with incomplete documentation?

I would identify and catalogue the material as far as possible, assess condition and completeness, compare it with relevant realised auction results, and apply a cautious estimate that reflects uncertainty. I would also ask the seller for provenance or additional images where these could materially affect value.

Describe how you would reject a seller's submission while preserving the relationship.

I would communicate promptly and respectfully, explain the relevant quality, condition, or market-demand criteria, and avoid vague feedback. Where appropriate, I would suggest what evidence, presentation improvements, or alternative items could make a future submission stronger.

How would you build a compelling weekly stamp auction?

I would create a balanced selection across price points, collecting themes, countries, and periods while prioritizing quality and buyer relevance. I would use market trends, bidder behaviour, and my professional network to secure distinctive lots and avoid an overly repetitive catalogue.

How would you collaborate with Sales and Marketing to grow the Benelux stamps category?

I would share insights on desirable seller segments, high-demand themes, and gaps in current supply with Sales. With Marketing, I would help identify notable lots and collector stories that can improve visibility, bidder engagement, and confidence in the auction selection.
