Sample interview questions
I review authenticity, card condition, grading status, rarity, set and player or character relevance, recent comparable sales, and current buyer demand. I then determine whether the lot meets category quality standards and set an estimate that is competitive while grounded in market evidence.
I would segment target supply sources such as card shops, established dealers, wholesalers, serious collectors, and grading-community contacts. I would prioritize relationship building, explain Catawiki’s auction proposition, and use performance data to identify the seller profiles and product types most likely to perform well.
Estimates can be affected by changing trends, thin comparable-sales data, grading variability, condition issues, and temporary demand spikes. I would use multiple recent comparables, verify the precise card variant and condition, monitor category trends, and adjust estimates when demand data changes.
I would track sell-through rate, hammer-price-to-estimate ratio, bidder activity, lot quality, buyer geography, and repeat seller performance. These insights would help refine estimates, select stronger auction themes, improve lot composition, and focus sourcing on the supply that attracts engaged buyers.
I would communicate clearly and respectfully, referring to objective condition criteria, grading evidence, and relevant comparable sales. I would explain the rationale for the proposed estimate or approval decision and seek a practical outcome that protects both seller trust and marketplace quality.
