Sample interview questions
I would outline the investment thesis, target-screening process, valuation approach, diligence workstreams, negotiation points, approval process, and closing outcome. I would emphasize how I coordinated stakeholders, surfaced material risks early, and connected the deal rationale to measurable strategic and financial value.
I start with a structured set of low, base, and high operating scenarios, identify the few assumptions with the greatest valuation sensitivity, and triangulate results using discounted cash flow, comparable companies, and precedent transactions where relevant. I clearly distinguish verified data from assumptions and present decision-makers with ranges, sensitivities, and key diligence questions.
A compelling acquisition should reinforce the company strategy through capabilities, audience, distribution, technology, content, or market position that would be difficult or slow to build organically. I also assess integration feasibility, cultural fit, customer overlap, execution risk, and whether the combined company has a credible path to realizing synergies.
I would establish a diligence plan with clear workstream owners, a prioritized request list, decision deadlines, and a central data room. I would run regular check-ins, maintain an issues tracker that highlights material findings and open items, and ensure senior decision-makers receive concise updates focused on valuation impact, risk, and required actions.
I focus the presentation on the decision required, strategic rationale, target overview, valuation, financial scenarios, principal risks, diligence findings, integration plan, and recommended next steps. The materials should be concise, fact-based, and transparent about assumptions so the board can quickly understand the opportunity, trade-offs, and downside case.
