The role, at a glance.
DuckDuckGo is seeking a senior strategic finance leader to run core FP&A processes and support high-impact investment decisions in a remote-first technology company. The role owns complex financial modeling for product expansion, search monetization, marketing ROI, and potential M&A, while driving quarterly forecasts and long-range planning. It requires strong three-statement modeling, U.S. GAAP knowledge, executive-ready written communication, and the ability to translate ambiguous questions into decision-useful metrics. The manager will partner closely with cross-functional leaders and improve recurring reporting through AI and BI tooling. This is a full-time remote role for candidates based in the United States or Canada, with occasional company and team retreats.

Sample interview questions
I would start with clearly documented operating drivers such as acquisition, conversion, retention, pricing, and support costs. I would link those drivers to revenue recognition, cost of sales, operating expenses, working capital, cash flow, and the balance sheet, then validate the model with historical trends and scenario testing. I would present a base case, upside, downside, sensitivities, and the decisions or milestones that would cause the plan to change.
I would segment performance by channel, cohort, geography, and product where data permits, then assess incremental CAC, conversion, retention, payback period, contribution margin, and lifetime value. I would distinguish correlation from incrementality through experiments or holdout analysis when possible. My recommendation would include the expected financial impact, key assumptions, risks, and a measurement plan for revisiting the decision.
I communicate the central estimate alongside a concise range of outcomes, the handful of assumptions that matter most, and leading indicators to monitor. I make the recommendation explicit and separate known facts from judgment. In an async environment, I would provide a short written narrative supported by a decision-ready dashboard or model appendix.
I would first map the current process, identify manual data handoffs and controls, and prioritize workflows with high frequency or error risk. I would establish governed source data and repeatable transformations, then automate dashboards and variance commentary while preserving review checkpoints. I would measure success through cycle-time reduction, fewer manual errors, and greater adoption by business partners.
I would begin with the strategic rationale and define the value-creation thesis, then build standalone and combined financial cases. The analysis would cover revenue and cost synergies, integration costs, valuation, return thresholds, cash impact, accounting implications, execution risks, and downside scenarios. I would clearly identify the assumptions requiring diligence and recommend whether to proceed, renegotiate, or decline.
