Sample interview questions
I reviewed contract terms to identify performance obligations, allocated transaction prices where necessary, and recognized revenue as obligations were satisfied. I also maintained support for deferred and unbilled revenue balances and ensured entries were documented for audit review.
I begin by reconciling subledger activity to the general ledger, investigate unusual variances, validate contract and billing support, and prepare adjusting entries when needed. I retain clear reconciliation schedules and explanations so reviewers and auditors can follow the work efficiently.
I would review the contract, order details, and billing records to confirm the issue, coordinate with the billing and customer-facing teams, and determine whether a corrected invoice or credit memo is appropriate. I would document the resolution and assess any related revenue-recognition impact.
I use a structured close checklist, prioritize high-risk reconciliations, validate data against source systems, and perform reasonableness checks on balances and variances. I also communicate early when an exception may affect timing or require cross-functional input.
I have used pivot tables, XLOOKUP or INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, conditional formatting, and reconciliation templates to analyze large transaction populations. These tools help identify exceptions, compare periods, and produce reliable supporting schedules for close and audit work.
