Sample interview questions
I would combine historical cohort conversion and retention data with current pipeline coverage, stage-based win rates, sales capacity, ramp assumptions, and segment-level performance. I would maintain a driver-based model, reconcile it to actuals each month, and clearly separate committed, best-case, and risk-adjusted scenarios.
I define consistent cost allocation and customer cohorts first, then calculate acquisition cost, gross-margin-adjusted payback, retention, and lifetime value by segment and channel. I use the results to identify where incremental investment has the strongest return and where performance needs corrective action.
I would begin with the size and timing of the variance, identify the key drivers such as pipeline creation, conversion, sales capacity, or retention, and quantify each driver's contribution. I would finish with a concise recommendation, owner, expected impact, and the leading indicators to monitor.
I focus on shared goals and make the assumptions transparent rather than presenting conclusions as fixed. By showing scenario outcomes, validating inputs with functional leaders, and proposing practical alternatives, I can constructively challenge the plan while maintaining alignment.
I would prioritize data pulls and reconciliation for pipeline, bookings, actual revenue, and KPI reporting, followed by standardized variance commentary and forecast refresh workflows. Automation should reduce manual errors while giving business partners faster access to trusted, decision-ready metrics.
