Sample interview questions
Describe a competitive DoD opportunity that you shaped before release and ultimately won.

I would explain how I identified the requirement early, validated customer priorities with program and contracting stakeholders, developed a differentiated solution and teaming approach, led gate reviews and proposal development, and tracked the outcome through award. I would quantify the award value, win probability improvement, and lessons learned.

How would you decide whether ICON should pursue a MILCON, OTA, or IDIQ opportunity?

I would assess strategic fit, customer access, technical alignment, funding maturity, acquisition pathway, competitive position, delivery capacity, margin potential, and probability of win. I would then present a clear bid/no-bid recommendation with key risks, required investments, and a capture plan.

How do you ensure commitments made during capture are technically and contractually executable?

I involve engineering, operations, regulatory, pricing, and legal stakeholders early in the capture process. I use structured reviews to validate assumptions, requirements compliance, solution maturity, cost and schedule feasibility, and contract risks before any customer commitment is finalized.

What is your approach to building credibility with senior DoD and Pentagon stakeholders?

I prepare thoroughly on mission priorities, acquisition constraints, and the stakeholder's operating context, then lead with useful insight rather than a sales pitch. I maintain trust by following through quickly, communicating candidly about capabilities and limitations, and consistently connecting solutions to measurable mission outcomes.

How would you use market intelligence to influence ICON's product roadmap?

I would synthesize customer conversations, competitive intelligence, funding signals, policy changes, and recurring operational needs into evidence-based opportunity themes. I would translate those themes into prioritized product requirements, articulate the expected market impact, and work with product and engineering leaders to validate feasibility and timing.

  • Familiarity with MILCON project delivery, OTA construction agreements, or other non-traditional defense acquisition pathways.

  • Background in design-build or fast-track delivery, or in 3D printing, additive manufacturing, robotics in construction, or other innovative construction methods.

  • Graduate degree in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline, or a background in management consulting or strategic advisory focused on defense.
