Sample interview questions
I would verify the business identity and beneficial ownership, review the business model and processing history, assess KYC and AML requirements, and compare the applicant against internal policy, processor rules, and card-brand standards. I would document the risk factors, request clarifying evidence where needed, and recommend approval terms, limits, enhanced monitoring, or decline based on the overall risk profile.
I would first confirm why the alert was generated and review transaction details, historical behavior, merchant profile, velocity patterns, and related accounts. I would assess whether the activity is consistent with the merchant’s stated business model, gather supporting information when necessary, and make a documented recommendation such as clearing the alert, applying controls, escalating, or restricting processing.
They provide the compliance framework for determining whether a merchant can be safely onboarded and monitored. KYC validates the entity and ownership, AML controls help identify illicit activity, PCI requirements protect payment-card data, and card-brand rules define acceptable business practices and prohibited activity. I use these requirements together with internal policy to make defensible, consistent decisions.
I would monitor chargeback and refund rates, transaction velocity, average ticket changes, authorization declines, sudden volume growth, cross-border activity, negative balances, and activity inconsistent with the merchant’s expected business model. Trends should be evaluated against both the merchant’s own baseline and relevant portfolio benchmarks before determining the appropriate action.
I would explain the request or decision clearly, accurately, and professionally, using plain language while protecting sensitive internal controls. I would state what information is needed, why it is relevant, the expected timeline, and any available next steps. For internal teams, I would provide concise evidence, risk rationale, and a specific recommended action.
