Sample interview questions
How do you ensure accurate end-to-end payroll processing in Colombia?

I use a structured payroll calendar with validation checkpoints for employee changes, variable pay, deductions, statutory contributions, and payroll vendor outputs. Before approval, I reconcile gross-to-net results against prior periods, investigate material variances, and retain audit-ready documentation.

What is your experience with PILA and Nómina Electrónica reporting?

I understand the importance of timely and accurate social-security reporting through PILA and electronic payroll reporting to DIAN. I validate the underlying employee, earnings, deduction, and contribution data, coordinate corrections with the payroll vendor, and monitor submission deadlines closely.

How would you handle an employee escalation about an unexpected withholding or deduction?

I would acknowledge the request promptly, review the payroll record and applicable tax or benefit rules, and explain the finding in clear and respectful language. If an error is confirmed, I would coordinate the correction, communicate the timing, and document the resolution in the ticketing system.

How do you support accounting during month-end close?

I provide reconciled gross-to-net reports, payroll accruals, payment summaries, and clear variance explanations against prior periods or budget. I work closely with accounting to resolve open items quickly and ensure payroll journal entries are supported by reliable source data.

Describe how you work effectively with an external payroll vendor.

I establish clear ownership, service-level expectations, cutoff dates, and validation procedures. I provide complete and timely inputs, challenge inconsistencies in vendor output, track issues to resolution, and use recurring reviews to improve accuracy and process efficiency.
