Sample interview questions
How do you build a renewal strategy for a high-value account with a potential churn risk?

I begin by reviewing contract terms, product adoption, support history, stakeholder changes, and commercial risk indicators. I align with the CSM and account executive on a mutual action plan, engage decision-makers early, address value gaps with relevant usage data, and document clear milestones through signature.

Describe how you handle a customer who requests a substantial price reduction at renewal.

I first clarify the customer's underlying concern, such as budget pressure, adoption issues, or competitive alternatives. I reinforce realized value, explore appropriate packaging or term options, and protect commercial guardrails by trading concessions for commitments such as a longer term, expanded scope, or improved payment terms.

What practices help you maintain an accurate renewal forecast?

I use defined forecast stages based on evidence rather than optimism, including stakeholder alignment, confirmed budget, legal status, and signature timing. I update CRM records frequently, flag risks early, validate assumptions with internal partners, and distinguish close dates from likely decision dates.

How have you used product-usage data in a renewal conversation?

I translate usage metrics into customer outcomes, identifying successful adoption patterns as well as underused capabilities. For low adoption, I partner with the CSM on a targeted enablement plan; for strong adoption, I use the data to support value realization and identify logical expansion opportunities.

How would you coordinate with Customer Success and Sales when account ownership overlaps during a renewal?

I establish a shared account plan with explicit ownership for executive engagement, value validation, commercial negotiation, and next steps. Regular communication and a single source of truth in the CRM prevent duplicate outreach, while shared objectives keep the team focused on customer outcomes and a timely renewal.
