Sample interview questions
How would you develop positioning for an AI-powered investor workflow product aimed at hedge funds and long-only asset managers?

I would begin with customer research to identify each segment's jobs, pain points, current workflows, and decision criteria. I would map the product's differentiated capabilities to measurable investor outcomes, then create a core positioning statement with tailored proof points, use cases, and messages for each audience. I would validate the narrative with customers, sales, and product stakeholders before scaling it into launch and enablement materials.

Describe how you would measure whether a product launch was successful.

I would establish a baseline and define metrics across the full funnel, including target-account awareness, product adoption, activated users, sales pipeline influenced, conversion rates, win rates, and customer feedback. The metrics would be segmented by ICP and use case so the team can identify where the launch is working or stalling. I would review results with Product and Revenue partners and use the findings to improve positioning, enablement, and the product experience.

How do you translate a technically complex data or AI capability into a compelling commercial story?

I start with the customer problem and desired business outcome rather than the technical feature. I work with product and technical experts to understand the mechanism, then convert it into simple benefit-led language supported by credible proof, examples, and quantified outcomes where possible. I also create layered messaging so executives receive a concise value proposition while technical evaluators can access deeper detail.

How would you approach competitive intelligence in a market with both established data providers and emerging AI platforms?

I would build a repeatable intelligence program using sales call feedback, win-loss analysis, customer interviews, product reviews, competitor materials, and market research. I would organize insights around buyer alternatives, strengths, weaknesses, objections, and differentiation rather than maintaining a static feature list. The output would include battlecards, objection handling, positioning recommendations, and regular updates for Product and Revenue teams.

Tell us how you would influence product roadmap decisions before a launch.

I would synthesize customer needs, market trends, competitive gaps, and commercial feedback into a clear opportunity narrative. I would pair qualitative evidence with data such as demand signals, deal friction, adoption patterns, and expected segment impact. By presenting prioritized recommendations early and partnering closely with product leaders, I would help ensure the roadmap addresses meaningful customer problems and supports a compelling go-to-market story.

YipitData is the leading alternative data platform for institutional investors, giving hedge funds and asset managers the differentiated insights they need to make better investment decisions. We are a multi-modal platform, inclusive of data feeds, our Investor Portal, and AI-powered agents and MCPs, that are redefining how investors discover, analyze, and act on data.

Product Marketing sits at the intersection of Product and Revenue, ensuring what we build, how we position it, and how we sell it are tightly aligned. As we expand into AI-native workflows, this function plays a critical role in shaping how our platform is understood, launched, and sold to increasingly sophisticated buyers.

We’re hiring a Senior Product Marketing Manager to own that work for our Public Investor segment. You’ll define positioning, lead product launches, and enable our commercial teams to bring the next generation of investor workflows to market. This is a foundational role with real scope, building core PMM capabilities for one of our most critical business lines. If you want to define how the future of investor workflows is understood and sold, this is your role.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Product Marketing Manager

  • Own product positioning and go-to-market strategy for a new generation of AI and big data products, shaping how investors understand and adopt data feeds, the Investor Portal and AI-powered solutions like agents and MCPs
  • Define ideal customer profiles (ICPs) and tailoring messaging to different investor segments (e.g., hedge funds vs. long-onlys)
  • Partner with Product, Revenue, and Insights teams to influence roadmap decisions based on market demand and customer insights
  • Lead competitive intelligence across both traditional data providers and emerging AI platforms to define clear differentiation
  • Collaborate on pricing and packaging across a multi-product platform spanning data, software, and AI
  • Develop and scale high-impact sales enablement and marketing assets that help commercial teams communicate complex products with clarity
  • Establish and tracking success metrics for GTM efforts (e.g., adoption, pipeline impact, win rates) and iterating based on performance

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in product marketing or a related role, ideally working on B2B, data, or AI-driven products
  • Strong ability to translate complex, technical capabilities into compelling narratives
  • Interest in or experience with AI and data products, with excitement for shaping how they are adopted in high-stakes investor workflows
  • Comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where the playbook is still being written
  • Experience working closely with product teams and influencing decisions early, not just at launch
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically, with ownership over outcomes end-to-end
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Bonus Points if you…

  • Have experience working with hedge funds, asset managers, or financial data products
  • Have a background in finance, investing, or data-driven research
  • Have built or scaled product marketing in a B2B or data-driven environment
  • Are familiar with frameworks like positioning, ICP development, or Jobs-to-Be-Done
  • MBA or MS in Marketing
