Sample interview questions
How would you prioritize Cobalt's integration roadmap across customer requests, partner opportunities, and internal strategic initiatives?

I would establish a transparent scoring framework that weighs revenue potential, retention impact, strategic partner value, customer demand, implementation effort, maintenance cost, and security risk. I would validate the highest-ranked opportunities with customers and GTM teams, then publish a roadmap with clear build-versus-partner decisions and measurable adoption outcomes.

Describe how you would approach building an enterprise-grade RBAC and permissions roadmap.

I would begin with a current-state assessment of user roles, permission gaps, audit findings, customer requirements, and relevant compliance expectations. I would define a scalable authorization model, align it with SSO and SAML/OIDC workflows, prioritize high-risk gaps, and measure success through security-review outcomes, reduced support friction, and enterprise adoption.

What is your approach to pricing and packaging for a multi-tier SaaS portfolio?

I combine customer segmentation, willingness-to-pay research, competitive context, product usage data, and margin considerations to define coherent tiers. I work closely with Finance and Sales to ensure entitlements are understandable and operationally enforceable, then test the model through pipeline feedback, conversion, expansion, and retention metrics.

How do you lead product operations without creating unnecessary process overhead?

I focus on a small number of repeatable practices that improve decision quality and execution visibility, such as consistent roadmap reviews, outcome-oriented QBRs, reliable metrics, and clear ownership. I regularly collect feedback from product teams and stakeholders, remove low-value ceremonies, and automate reporting where possible.

Tell us about a time you had to align Engineering, Sales, and Customer Success around a difficult platform tradeoff.

I would frame the decision around shared customer and business outcomes, make the technical constraints and opportunity costs explicit, and bring evidence from usage data, customer feedback, and commercial impact. After facilitating a decision, I would document the rationale, define success metrics, and maintain regular communication so each function understands the roadmap and launch plan.

Description

Cobalt is hiring a Director of Product Management, Platform to own the product surfaces that connect our pentesting offerings to the rest of a customer’s security and business stack, and that make those offerings easy to evaluate, configure, and scale. This is a newly created role on the Product leadership team, reporting to the VP of Product Management, with direct accountability for platform architecture decisions, the partner and integration ecosystem, pricing and packaging mechanics, access and permissions models, and the operational backbone (tooling, metrics, content) that the rest of Product relies on.

You will lead a team spanning Customer Experience, Product Operations, and Platform/Integrations PMs, and you will be the primary product partner to Engineering, Sales, Customer Success, and Security/Compliance stakeholders on anything that touches how customers connect to, configure, and pay for Cobalt. This is a high-visibility, build-and-scale role: you’ll inherit a working integrations program (including a recently shipped Wiz integration) and a clear mandate to mature it into a defensible platform and ecosystem strategy.

What You’ll Own

  • Platform & Integrations Strategy: Define and execute the roadmap for Cobalt’s integration ecosystem (e.g., SFDC, Slack/MS Teams, ticketing and automation tools), including build-vs-partner decisions and a prioritization framework tied to revenue and retention impact.
  • Ecosystem & Partnerships: Own the product side of technology partnerships — API/webhook strategy, partner onboarding requirements, and joint roadmap alignment with strategic integration partners.
  • Pricing & Packaging: Partner with Finance, Sales, and the VP of Product to design and evolve pricing and packaging across the tiered portfolio, including credits, contracts, and tier-based feature and integration entitlements.
  • Roles, Permissions & Access (RBAC): Own the roadmap for role-based access control, authentication, and customer administration capabilities that meet enterprise security and compliance expectations.
  • Customer Experience Alignment: Absorb and elevate the Customer Focus charter — customer journey, scoping and calculator experience, findings/reports, asset and engagement management, and customer-facing catalogue — ensuring platform decisions are grounded in real customer workflows.
  • Product Operations Leadership: Oversee the operating rhythm of the Product org — roadmap cadence, QBRs, Product Hour, in-platform content (Pendo), technical publications, usage/experience metrics, and tooling/vendor contract management.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and develop a team of PMs and product operations professionals; set goals, coach for growth, and represent the team’s roadmap to the VP of Product and cross-functional leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Execution: Partner closely with Engineering leads and Design to translate platform strategy into epics, acceptance criteria, and shippable releases, and with Customer Success/Sales to ensure GTM readiness for platform and integration launches.

What Success Looks Like in the First Year

  • A published platform and integration roadmap, prioritized against a clear framework, with at least one new strategic integration shipped.
  • A documented pricing/packaging model for tier-based feature and integration entitlements, adopted by Sales and Finance.
  • An RBAC and permissions framework that closes known enterprise/compliance gaps and is referenceable in security reviews.
  • A unified Product Operations cadence (roadmaps, QBR, Product Hour, usage metrics) running reliably across the org.
  • A team of PMs operating with clear ownership, a healthy backlog discipline, and strong cross-functional trust with Engineering, Design, and GTM.

You Must Have

  • 8+ years in product management, including 3+ years in a people-leadership role (Director, Group PM, or equivalent), ideally within B2B SaaS or cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrated experience owning platform, integrations, or ecosystem products — defining build-vs-partner tradeoffs and shipping API/webhook-based integrations at scale.
  • Direct experience with pricing and packaging design for a multi-tier or multi-product SaaS portfolio.
  • Working knowledge of access control, authentication, and enterprise security/compliance requirements (RBAC, SSO, SAML/OIDC) as they apply to product design.
  • A track record of leading product operations or platform functions that support an entire product organization (metrics, tooling, roadmap cadence), not just a single product line.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills — proven ability to align Engineering, Design, Sales, and Customer Success around a shared roadmap.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting strategy and tradeoffs to executive leadership.
  • Bonus: experience in cybersecurity, vulnerability management, or pentesting/offensive security domains; familiarity with Salesforce, Jira/Confluence, and Pendo.

  • Work directly with experienced senior leaders with ongoing mentorship opportunities

  • Save for the future with a 401(k) program (US) or pension (EU)
