The role, at a glance.
TRM Labs is seeking an experienced investigator to triage crypto-crime complaints and route validated cases into asset-recovery, takedown, legal-process, and victim-notification workflows. The role requires hands-on blockchain tracing, address attribution, assessment of AI-generated investigative outputs, and escalation of high-priority cases to actionable endpoints such as regulated exchanges. The investigator supports EMEA business hours while coordinating global handoffs and participating in an on-call rotation for urgent incidents. This is a high-ownership, fast-moving role involving substantial ambiguity, frequent communication, and operational decisions with real-world law-enforcement and financial-impact implications.

Sample interview questions
I would preserve the initial indicators and timestamps, identify the originating transactions, and trace flows using transaction amounts, timing, behavioral patterns, and known-service attribution. I would document confidence levels at each hop, validate the bridge movement on both chains, and prioritize endpoints that offer a realistic intervention opportunity, such as a regulated exchange. I would then prepare concise evidence and recommended actions for the appropriate recovery or legal workflow.
I treat AI output as a lead rather than a final determination. I independently verify key transaction paths, entity labels, source quality, and alternative explanations, particularly where a result could trigger a freeze, takedown, or law-enforcement escalation. I document discrepancies, correct the disposition, and feed recurring failure patterns back into the process to improve future review.
I would include the case priority, current status, victim and complaint context where appropriate, relevant addresses and transaction hashes, completed trace steps, confidence assessments, pending actions, deadlines, and the exact next owner or escalation path. The handoff should make clear what changed, what must happen next, and any legal or operational risks. I would ensure supporting evidence is stored consistently so the next investigator can verify the work quickly.
I would evaluate transaction behavior, address clustering, counterparties, infrastructure indicators, deposit and withdrawal patterns, and corroborating intelligence from reliable data sources. I would avoid treating absence of attribution as proof of private control, and I would clearly state the evidence, assumptions, and confidence level. Where uncertainty remains material, I would seek additional corroboration before recommending an enforcement action.
I would apply a consistent triage framework based on harm, recoverability, time sensitivity, evidentiary strength, and operational actionability. I would use automation and AI to accelerate repeatable checks but reserve human review for high-impact dispositions and ambiguous cases. I would communicate queue status and escalation needs early, maintain clear handoffs, and periodically sample closed cases to detect quality issues.
About this role.
Build a Safer World.
TRM Labs provides AI-powered intelligence solutions that help public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt crime. TRM’s platforms enable investigators to trace illicit activity, build cases, and construct operating pictures of threat networks. Leading agencies and businesses worldwide rely on TRM to make the world safer and more secure.
As a Global Investigator on the triage team, you will be the first line of operational defense in a fast-moving crypto disruption pipeline. You will process inbound complaint data, validate outputs from our artificial-intelligence (AI) investigation platform, and route cases into the investigative pipelines that result in frozen scam proceeds and seized assets. You will hold the disposition pen: your call is what turns a complaint into a freeze, a takedown, a recovery handoff, a legal-process draft, a victim notification, or a close.
The impact you will have:
Validate and route hundreds of complaint dispositions per week, feeding a live asset-recovery pipeline.
Catch the AI errors that matter, such as false positives, merged syndicates, and misclassified scam patterns, before they propagate downstream.
Enrich complaint selectors using a stack of more than forty commercial data-source integrations.
Take the highest-priority complaints beyond disposition: trace funds through consolidation wallets to regulated exchanges or other actionable endpoints
Own clean shift handoffs so the around-the-clock operation never drops a lead, providing EMEA-hours coverage that keeps the queue moving while colleagues in other regions are offline.
What we’re looking for:
4 or more years of investigative or analytical experience in the public or private sector, including hands-on blockchain analysis.
Demonstrated experience tracing funds across chains and attributing addresses to real-world actors, including the judgment to tell an unattributed service from a privately controlled (unhosted) wallet
Experience building or contributing to cases that led to a freeze, seizure, arrest, or takedown.
Strong AI fluency, meaning comfort using AI tools as a daily co-pilot, plus the judgment to know when they are wrong.
Comfort operating in a fast-paced, fluid environment where the project’s scope and emphasis may shift quarter to quarter.
Strong written and verbal communication.
About the Team:
The team is built around a mix of seasoned investigators and rising talent. Triage investigators sit alongside experienced crypto tracers and intelligence-trained individual contributors.
Team Operating Rhythms:
Daily schedule: standard business hours in your local time zone.
Collaboration: coordinate with global teammates for handoffs on time-sensitive items, giving the wider operation near follow-the-sun coverage.
On-Call Responsibilities:
Formal on-call rotation for high-priority events, such as hacks, law-enforcement support, and other time-sensitive matters.
Weekly rotation, with occasional weekend coverage as needed.
