About this role.

About Us

Fieldguide is establishing a new state of trust for global commerce and capital markets through automating and streamlining the work of advisory, audit, and tax practitioners at the world’s largest CPA firms. Put simply, we build software for the people who enable trust between businesses.

We’re headquartered in San Francisco, CA and backed by top investors including Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC, Floodgate, Y Combinator, DNX Ventures, Global Founders Capital, Justin Kan, Elad Gil, and more.

We value diversity — in backgrounds and in experiences. We need people from all backgrounds and walks of life to help build the future of audit and advisory. Fieldguide’s team is inclusive, driven, humble and supportive. We are deliberate and self-reflective about the kind of team and culture that we are building, seeking teammates that are not only strong in their own aptitudes but care deeply about supporting each other’s growth.

As a growth stage startup employee, you’ll have the opportunity to build out the future of business trust. We make audit practitioners’ lives easier by eliminating up to 50% of their work and giving them better work-life balance. If you share our values and enthusiasm for building a great culture and product, you will find a home at Fieldguide.

About the Role

As Lead PM for Tax Agents, you will play a central role in building the industry’s leading agentic tax platform. You’ll work hand-in-hand with our engineers and our most strategic customers to design, ship, and continuously improve intelligent agents that transform how top CPA firms and corporate tax departments operate — from provision and compliance to research and review.

What You’ll Do

  • Build enterprise-grade AI agents that increase efficiency, quality, and practitioner experience across each stage of the tax lifecycle, from data gathering and workpaper prep to compliance, provision, and review.

  • Bring a fresh, AI-native mindset to solving long-standing industry challenges, while building interactively with tax practitioners at the world’s largest firms and corporate tax departments.

  • Be extremely customer centric. Understand customer needs, then define and ship zero-to-one features, and enhance and scale one-to-n features.

  • Shape the product roadmap: work with engineering and product design to quickly define, ship, and deliver impact with new features.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams including customer success, sales, and marketing to gather feedback, communicate product strategy, and drive adoption of new features.

  • We are open to either remote or in-person work arrangements.

Who You Are

  • 8+ years of product management experience with deep emphasis on AI / agents.

  • 3+ years of tax experience — as a tax practitioner and/or building tax products for the CPA or corporate tax market.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a track record of cross-functional collaboration.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity which comes with launching new products.

  • Degree in a technical, accounting, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Sample interview questions
How would you identify the highest-value tax workflow for Fieldguide's first AI agent?

I would combine workflow observation, interviews with tax practitioners, operational data, and a value-versus-feasibility assessment. I would prioritize a repetitive, high-volume task with measurable quality and cycle-time outcomes, clear human-review controls, and sufficient source data.

How would you build trust in an AI agent used for tax compliance or provision work?

I would design for human accountability through traceable outputs, source citations, configurable review checkpoints, confidence signals, audit logs, and clear escalation paths. I would validate performance against representative tax scenarios and work with practitioners to establish acceptable quality thresholds before broad rollout.

Describe how you would balance a strategic customer request against the broader product roadmap.

I would clarify the underlying problem, assess whether it represents a repeatable market need, and estimate customer and portfolio impact. If it is broadly reusable, I would shape it into a scalable product capability; if it is uniquely bespoke, I would seek a lighter-weight alternative or make the trade-off explicit with stakeholders.

What metrics would you use to evaluate an AI tax agent after launch?

I would track adoption, task completion rate, time saved, accuracy and reviewer-acceptance rates, exception and escalation rates, user satisfaction, and retention or expansion signals. Metrics would be segmented by workflow, customer type, and agent version to identify where performance or trust needs improvement.

How do you lead product development when requirements are ambiguous and the technology is evolving quickly?

I establish a clear customer outcome and a small set of assumptions to test, then deliver thin vertical slices that create learning quickly. I maintain close engineering and customer feedback loops, document decisions and risks, and update the roadmap as evidence improves.
