Sample interview questions
I would start by mapping the end-to-end user journey and identifying drop-off points through funnel data and qualitative feedback. I would prioritize opportunities based on expected user impact, strategic value, implementation effort, and measurable effects on metrics such as posting rate, interaction rate, and retention.
I define explicit user states, system states, transitions, permissions, failure paths, and recovery behavior before development begins. I document these in clear product requirements and review them with design and engineering to ensure the intended experience is feasible, consistent, and testable.
I would use adoption and activation metrics first, then recurring engagement indicators such as active contributors, posts per active user, comment depth, response time, interaction rate, and cohort retention. I would pair these with qualitative signals such as content quality, moderation burden, and user feedback.
I would establish shared interaction principles and reusable patterns for navigation, publishing, and feedback, then allow targeted variations only where user intent or context clearly differs. The decision would be validated through research, analytics, and experiments rather than relying solely on internal preference.
I would clarify the underlying user problem and desired outcome, then collaborate on lower-complexity alternatives, staged delivery, or experiments that validate demand early. This preserves momentum while ensuring that major technical investment is supported by evidence.
