Job Summary
Our client is looking for a Frontend-Leaning Software Engineer to join their product team. While their current engineering bench is deeply rooted in backend architecture, they are looking for a specialist to bridge the gap between robust data structures and a world-class user interface.
They need a “browser-first” engineer—someone who is obsessed with the user’s experience, highly skilled in modern CSS and styling, and capable of navigating a modern full-stack ecosystem without losing sight of pixel-perfect execution. You will partner closely with a backend-focused team to transform complex data into seamless, elegant interfaces, ensuring every interaction feels intuitive, performant, and visually exceptional while elevating frontend standards across the platform.
Responsibilities
Collaborate and develop the frontend for our client’s core platforms, ensuring they meet the high aesthetic standards of the brand.
Master the Styles: Take full ownership of CSS, layout, and responsive design, ensuring applications are fluid, performant, and visually stunning.
Collaborate Across the Stack: Work closely with a backend-heavy team to integrate APIs and data models into a seamless, intuitive frontend experience.
Component Architecture: Build and maintain a scalable, reusable UI library that allows for rapid feature iteration across Next.js and SvelteKit environments.
Qualifications and Job Requirements
5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on frontend development.
Expert-level proficiency in React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
Mastery of HTML5, CSS3, and TypeScript.
Proven experience building complex, responsive web applications from scratch.
Strong communication skills, you’ll be the primary advocate for frontend excellence on our client’s team.
Comfortable working across the stack when needed (Node.js, APIs, PostgreSQL).

Sample interview questions
I would define shared design tokens, accessibility rules, and component contracts first, then select an implementation and packaging approach appropriate to both frameworks. I would document variants and usage patterns, test components visually and functionally, and maintain versioning so product teams can adopt improvements safely.
I start by understanding the user decisions the interface must support, then map the API data into purpose-specific view models rather than exposing raw responses throughout the UI. I handle loading, empty, error, and partial-data states explicitly, and work with backend partners when API shapes create unnecessary presentation complexity.
I use a systematic layout approach with design tokens, flexible grids, fluid sizing, and breakpoint behavior based on content rather than devices alone. I validate against specifications across screen sizes, use semantic HTML, and avoid fixed dimensions where they would cause overflow or fragile layouts.
I profile first to identify the main bottleneck, then apply targeted measures such as server rendering or static generation where suitable, route-level code splitting, optimized image delivery, caching, and reducing unnecessary client-side JavaScript. I also monitor Core Web Vitals to verify that changes improve real user experience.
I would communicate frontend requirements early through clear acceptance criteria, API contracts, design reviews, and practical examples of user impact. I would make quality easy to adopt by providing reusable components, documented patterns, and constructive feedback while remaining pragmatic about delivery priorities.
