Sample interview questions
Describe a Django application you built or maintained and the most important technical decision you made.

I would outline the application’s purpose, architecture, data model, and integrations, then explain the decision, alternatives considered, and measurable outcome. For example, I might describe introducing service-layer logic and asynchronous processing to improve maintainability and response times.

How do you design PostgreSQL schemas and queries for a growing web application?

I begin with clear domain relationships, constraints, and normalized data where appropriate. I use indexes based on real query patterns, inspect execution plans for slow queries, and apply migrations and data-integrity safeguards carefully.

How would you ensure quality and security when using LLMs or coding agents in engineering work?

I treat generated output as untrusted draft code. I validate requirements, review the implementation, run automated tests and security checks, avoid sharing sensitive data, and confirm that generated changes fit established architecture and coding standards.

How do you approach building software for medical or other regulated domains?

I prioritize correctness, auditability, privacy, and reliable failure handling. I clarify business rules with domain experts, use thorough automated testing, protect sensitive data, and document integration and operational decisions.

How do you make effective architectural decisions in a small, highly autonomous team?

I first clarify the user and business problem, identify constraints, and present pragmatic options with trade-offs. I seek early alignment from relevant teammates, make reversible decisions when possible, and document the reasoning so the team can maintain the solution over time.
