Sample interview questions
How would you investigate a fraud report received from another financial institution?

I would first verify the report details, review the relevant account activity and customer history, and identify any immediate actions needed to reduce risk. I would document evidence objectively, request clarification or supporting information where necessary, and ensure my actions meet internal procedures and applicable deadlines.

How do you balance empathy for a customer with the need to prevent fraud?

I communicate respectfully, explain the process in clear language, and avoid assumptions while gathering facts. At the same time, I remain evidence-led and apply controls consistently so that customer care does not compromise account security or regulatory obligations.

Describe how you would manage several cases with different deadlines.

I would triage cases by regulatory urgency, potential customer harm, and the actions required. I would maintain clear case notes, set reminders for deadlines and follow-ups, and escalate early when a case needs specialist input or may not be completed within the required timeframe.

What would you do if evidence in a fraud case were incomplete or conflicting?

I would identify the specific gaps or inconsistencies, seek additional evidence from the relevant customer, bank, or internal systems, and avoid reaching conclusions prematurely. I would clearly record the rationale for each action and escalate the matter where policy or risk thresholds require it.

How would you communicate a sensitive fraud-related decision to an external bank or authority?

I would provide concise, factual, and appropriately authorised information, following data-sharing and confidentiality requirements. My communication would state the relevant findings, requested action, and any deadlines, while keeping a complete audit trail in the case record.
