About this role.
About ClassDojo and Dojo Tutor
ClassDojo’s goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.
We started by building a global communication network connecting K–12 teachers, children and families. Today, ClassDojo’s flagship app is used in more than 95% of U.S. schools and reaches more than 45 million children across 180 countries. With a team of around 200 people, we’re now building on that network to create exceptional learning experiences for kids that go far beyond what a traditional school can provide.
Dojo Tutor is one of those experiences. It connects kids with caring, experienced teachers for 1:1 tutoring and small-group classes designed to build both skills and confidence. Tutor is already operating at meaningful scale with families, and we regularly hear about the impact it has on both kids and tutors.
We build ClassDojo around high talent density. Our team brings together entrepreneurial and innovative people with backgrounds spanning education and leading consumer and technology companies. We want ClassDojo to be a place where exceptional people can do the strongest work of their careers while helping pioneer the future of education.
Head of Tutor Operations
Dojo Tutor is a two-sided marketplace: families book 1:1 tutoring and small-group classes with experienced teachers. The Tutor Operations team keeps that marketplace running smoothly and constantly improves it. The team acquires and retains tutors, improves reliability and quality, and supports families and tutors. Over the past two years, the team has helped take Tutor from break-even to strong margins while growing the business significantly. You’ll be stepping into a high-functioning, AI-forward team that collaborates closely with Product, runs experiments, builds its own tools end-to-end with AI, and has a strong pulse on the needs of our tutors and customers.
We’re looking for a people-oriented leader to manage and grow this team, while serving as a strategic partner to Product and business leadership.
What You’ll Do
Lead the Tutor Operations team, covering tutor supply acquisition and retention, session reliability and quality, customer support, tutor community, and manual operations: set ambitious goals, coach, give direct feedback and help each person grow.
Drive top-line growth: shape Tutor’s growth strategy with Product, bring what you see on the front line into roadmap decisions, and staff launches with the ops support they need.
Coach the team as it owns the supply side of the marketplace, ensuring the right mix of tutors across subjects, grades, time slots, languages and locales, and a rising bar for quality and reliability.
Help the team run customer support for families and tutors that’s fast, accurate and increasingly automated, so quality goes up as cost per contact goes down.
Prioritize ruthlessly: focus the team on fewer things done well, protect its capacity, and tie every process the team runs to the business outcome it should move.
You’ll Be a Match If
You have a strong record of people management and leadership. You see people as individuals and know how to motivate them, hold them accountable, and help them grow.
You’ve led operations at a tech company, ideally for a marketplace business.
You’re analytical: you set measurable goals, dig into data yourself, and make clear calls on what to prioritize and what not to do.
You own outcomes, not just processes, and you hold your team to the same standard.
You push back on and sharpen senior leaders’ thinking, not just carry out their plans.
You’re a hands-on executor who uses AI to get more done.
Bonus Points
You’ve taught, tutored, or worked in edtech.
You’ve scaled a support or ops function with automation and AI rather than headcount.
You’ve run operations for an international or new-market expansion.

Sample interview questions
I would first segment the data by tutor cohort, subject, time slot, locale, cancellation reason, and lead time. I would pair that analysis with tutor and family feedback, identify the highest-impact failure modes, then test targeted interventions with clear reliability and retention metrics.
I would define a supply plan by subject, grade, geography, and peak time slots, while maintaining explicit quality gates. Acquisition channels would be evaluated on activation, reliability, learner outcomes, and tutor retention rather than volume alone.
I set a small number of outcome-based priorities, make ownership and decision rights explicit, and communicate the rationale behind trade-offs. I use regular metrics reviews and direct feedback to remove blockers while giving team members room to own execution.
I would prioritize high-volume, repeatable contacts with clear resolution paths, such as scheduling questions, policy guidance, and status updates. Automation should include escalation safeguards, quality monitoring, and measurement of resolution rate, customer satisfaction, and cost per contact.
I would translate frontline signals into quantified product opportunities, showing affected users, operational cost, and expected business impact. I would bring proposed solutions and experiment designs to product discussions, then jointly track whether launches improve the intended marketplace outcomes.
