Sample interview questions
How would you approach building test automation for a team that currently relies entirely on manual testing?

I would first assess the product architecture, critical user journeys, existing test cases, release risks, and CI/CD workflow. I would then establish a maintainable framework in Python, prioritize stable high-value regression and API coverage, and introduce automated tests incrementally with clear ownership and reporting.

How do you decide which tests should be automated versus kept manual?

I automate repeatable, stable, high-risk, and frequently executed checks such as regression, API, and core end-to-end workflows. I keep exploratory testing, rapidly changing interfaces, usability validation, and one-off investigations manual when automation would not provide sufficient return.

Describe how you would validate a healthcare SaaS feature with HIPAA-related quality requirements.

I would translate relevant privacy and security requirements into traceable test scenarios, including authorization, auditability, data exposure, session handling, and error behavior. I would partner with engineering and security stakeholders, document evidence, and ensure that critical workflows are covered in both pre-release and regression testing.

How would you communicate a release risk to product and engineering stakeholders?

I would clearly state the affected feature, severity, user or patient-care impact, reproduction steps, test coverage, and recommended next action. I would distinguish confirmed defects from open risks and provide a concise release recommendation so stakeholders can make an informed decision.

What would you include in a QA strategy for a new feature?

I would define scope, quality risks, acceptance criteria, test levels, environments, test data, automation candidates, nonfunctional testing needs, defect workflow, release gates, and quality metrics. The strategy would be reviewed early with product and engineering to align expectations before implementation is complete.
