Sample interview questions
I would first verify the available benefit details and identify the deductible, copay, coinsurance, authorization status, and any coverage limitations. I would then explain the estimate in plain language, clarify that final responsibility is determined by the insurer, and provide next steps for confirming plan-specific information.
I would listen without interrupting, acknowledge the concern, and remain calm and empathetic. I would review the available billing or benefit information, explain it clearly without making unsupported guarantees, and offer applicable payment options or escalation paths.
I would document the date and method of contact, the caregiver's questions, benefit or cost information discussed, guidance provided, follow-up commitments, escalation details, and any relevant authorization status. Documentation should be objective, accurate, timely, and compliant with HIPAA.
I use only approved systems, verify the identity of the person before discussing protected information, follow minimum-necessary disclosure principles, and maintain a private workspace. I also avoid storing patient information outside authorized tools and promptly report any suspected privacy issue.
I assess urgency based on appointment timing, care access risk, authorization deadlines, and the impact on the family. I organize tasks in the designated workflow system, communicate expected timelines proactively, and escalate blockers to the appropriate care, clinical, or insurance team.
