Description:
I keep seeing vehicle maintenance skills ignored in job listings for fleet or delivery roles, even though it seems crucial. Is it normal that employers don’t prioritize this, or am I missing something about what they actually want?

Employers in fleet or delivery often see vehicle maintenance as a plus but not a must because they’d rather outsource that headache to specialists than gamble on drivers doubling as mechanics, even when it costs more. They want people who move goods reliably and avoid downtime; fixing a flat tire or topping up fluids might be expected, but anything deeper usually triggers service calls. If your resume says “can fix an engine,” they might fear you’ll overstep boundaries or demand higher pay, so they focus on punctuality, driving records, and customer interaction instead.
lots of places just wanna drivers who stick to driving, not fixing cars. they figure mechanics got it covered, and messing with repairs slows down deliveries anyway.
