Description:
My offer got approved and HR wants me to start in 10 days, but my current manager just dumped a project on me that absolutely should not be mid-transfer 😒. I keep getting asked to “just wrap it up” while also onboarding paperwork is already flying at me. Is it possible to push the start date back without looking like I’m backing out, or do employers treat that like a red flag? 😵

Offer letters can move, and 10 days is tight. I’ve seen people get a 2-week push just by asking early and giving a clean reason. Send HR a crisp note, say you’re committed, name the exact date you can start, and don’t overshare the drama - tbh they usually care more about certainty than ego.
Yep, that sounds awful 😵 happened to me once when my old team suddenly acted like I was the only one who could fix everything. I asked HR for a 1-week push, framed it as wanting a clean handoff, and they were fine. Not sure if that applies everywhere tho, but asking early and giving one firm date usually reads way better than sounding uncertain.
Yeah, that’s a super common mess, and asking for a short delay usually doesn’t read like backing out if you keep it specific and professional. Tell HR you’re excited to join, explain the current handoff issue, and prpoose a new date you can commit to - honestly they’d rather get clarity than have you start frazzled
