How do I address missing stakeholder experience?

Job Search Asked Active 9 Aug 2026
Question details

I have strong technical delivery experience, but several product roles require working directly with customers or business stakeholders. How can I position related experience in my application, and should I apply when that requirement is listed as essential?

  1. Several roles list stakeholder work as essential but mean routine discovery, not account ownership. Example: frame technical decisions as user-impact trade-offs; apply unless customer management is central.

If your delivery work involved clarifying needs, resolving trade-offs, or translating feedback into changes, present those as stakeholder-facing outcomes. Apply when you can evidence most of the requirement. For example: “Aligned release priorities with support-team feedback.” The main exception is a role requiring established client ownership from day one.
