Department Description:
The mission of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) is to reduce excessive frivolous litigation while restoring fairness and balance to the nationβs civil justice system. This is achieved through legislative, judicial, and educational activities at both the national and local levels, as we as internationally.
This internship is scheduled to run from Monday, September 15th through Friday, November 21st, 2025. This is a part time internship where candidates can expect to work up to 20 hours per week. Interns work on a hybrid schedule and are expected to be in office at least two days a week at our U.S. Chamber of Commerce HQ in downtown Washington, DC. Fully remote applicants will not be considered. This is a paid internship that pays $20.00 per hour. Students may also receive academic credit if they meet the criteria set by their school.
Position Overview:
The Legal Intern will be responsible for assisting the ILR organization in the implementation of the Federal and State programs. This will be accomplished through legislative & legal research, memo writing, and updating of fundraising materials.
Job Responsibilities:
β’ Conduct specific issue related research.
β’ Write analytical memos.
β’ Participate in ILR member task-force calls, meetings, events, etc.
β’ Attend/watch and report on Congressional hearings & events.
Qualifications:
β’ Working towards Juris Doctorate degree
β’ Must have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment.
β’ Must have excellent interpersonal skills and follow- up skills.
β’ Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, and Outlook required.
β’ Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
β’ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
