We are looking for an energetic and hardworking product lawyer to join our Product Counsel Legal team. This individual will support the servicing and underwriting lifecycle for payments, BNPL loans, including underwriting, servicing, and collections. The best candidate will be flexible enough to engage in a wide range of projects and matters in support of Affirmβs strategic objectives. What You’ll Do
Counsel Affirmβs Business teams and other cross-functional stakeholders on relevant consumer financial services laws and regulations affecting new and existing products and services, including the PSD2, Regulatory compliance. Advise on relevant financial regulatory requirements: including PSD2, AML/KYC, EU Directive and Dutch Consumer Rights laws. e.g. PSD2, AMLD, CBPR2, MTRs, DORA, SCA)
Foundational legal and regulatory frameworks that cover payments, e-commerce, and online platforms
Support Affirmβs origination and servicing of loan and payment productsΒ
Provide strategic advice regarding EU consumer finance and protection laws
Monitor legal and regulatory developments in consumer lending and servicing
Be a trusted advisor and teammate, sharing legal and other expertise and support when neededΒ
Identify and evaluate business and legal risks and act as a trusted partner for creative legal problem-solvingΒ
Draft terms and conditions, disclosures, review copy
Create and solve initiatives related to new and existing Affirm products to ensure business partners are supportedΒ
What We Look For
Ideal candidate will have 6+ years of related business, government, or fintech experience, preferably with a focus on Payments, Consumer Credit, Banking, or BNPL
Relevant education. Youβre a qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5 years PQE, and ideally 7 years of professional legal experience
Someone who has established expertise in all areas of the consumer credit lifecycle, including originations, underwriting, licensing, KYC/AML, servicing, credit reporting, & collections
A combination of private practice and in-house experience is preferred
A quick learner who genuinely enjoys legal analysis and collaboration in a fast-paced environment – you take your work seriously, but donβt take yourself too seriouslyΒ
Experience developing creative approaches to legal challenges while providing business-focused legal adviceΒ
Inquisitive and proactive in identifying risks and proposing creative and effective solutionsΒ
Strong project management, critical thinking, creativity, and analytical skillsΒ
Someone focused on maintaining positive relationships and trust with cross-functional business partnersΒ
Passion for improving credit products and consumer experiencesΒ
Base Pay Grade – O
Equity Grade – 5
Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills.
Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). In addition, the employees may be eligible for equity rewards offered by Affirm Holdings, Inc. (parent company).
ESP base pay range per year: β¬96,000 – β¬126,000
