Field Technician Data Center POP Telecom Equipment Fiber Optics OTDR Network Testing Site Survey Vendor Management Physical Installation

I am writing to express my interest in the Field Technician II position. With an associate's degree and over three years of hands-on experience in data center and POP environments, I am confident in my ability to contribute effectively to your team.

My background includes extensive work with fiber optic and copper cabling, AC/DC power systems, and telecom equipment such as DWDMs and routers. I am skilled in using testing equipment like OTDRs and power meters to ensure network quality.

I have a proven track record of collaborating with LEC technicians and vendors to complete installations and repairs on time. My ability to work independently and solve problems aligns with the demands of this role.

I am eager to bring my technical expertise and dedication to maintaining high standards to your company. Thank you for considering my application.

Describe your experience with installing and maintaining telecom equipment in a data center or POP environment.
I have over three years of experience installing and maintaining DWDMs, routers, and switches in data centers. I follow MOPs carefully and ensure proper rack and stack configurations, cable management, and testing.
How do you ensure quality when performing site surveys and audits?
I use checklists aligned with company standards, verify cable labeling, check power and environmental controls, and reconcile any discrepancies with network surveillance teams.
Can you explain your process for troubleshooting a fiber optic connectivity issue?
I start with visual inspection using a microscope, then use an OTDR to locate faults. I measure loss and reflectance, and if needed, coordinate with LEC for repairs.
Describe a time you had to coordinate with a local exchange carrier or vendor to resolve an issue.
Once, a circuit was down due to a fiber cut. I coordinated with the LEC to schedule a repair, provided site access, and tested the new splice to ensure restoration within SLA.
What safety protocols do you follow when working in manholes or vaults?
I always follow OSHA standards, including using gas detectors, ensuring proper ventilation, wearing PPE, and having a spotter above ground. I also check for utility markings before digging.
