Key Skills

Accounts Receivable General Ledger Bank Reconciliation Financial Reporting MS Excel ERP Systems Journal Entries Account Analysis Communication Skills Bilingual English/Italian

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am excited to apply for the Accountant - Receivables position at BCD Travel. With a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and over three years of experience in general accounting, I have developed strong skills in preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledgers, and generating financial reports. I am proficient in MS Excel and have experience with ERP systems, which I understand are key requirements for this role.

In my previous role at XYZ Company, I successfully managed accounts receivable, reduced reconciliation discrepancies by 15%, and improved reporting accuracy. I am fluent in both English and Italian, enabling seamless communication with your global team. I am drawn to BCD's commitment to sustainability and employee growth, and I am eager to contribute to your financial operations.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my skills align with BCD's goals.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Can you describe your experience with preparing monthly journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts?
In my previous role, I prepared monthly journal entries for accruals, prepayments, and adjustments, ensuring they were accurate and supported by documentation. I reconciled general ledger accounts by comparing subsidiary ledgers, investigating discrepancies, and making corrections. This process typically took 2-3 days and ensured the financial statements were accurate.
How do you ensure accuracy when reconciling bank statements?
I start by obtaining the bank statement and the company's cash book. I match transactions, note any outstanding items, and investigate differences. I use a systematic approach, ticking off items one by one, and maintain a reconciliation workbook. I also follow up with the bank if needed. This ensures the reconciliation is complete and accurate.
What ERP systems have you used, and how comfortable are you with MS Excel?
I have used SAP and Oracle in previous positions. I am proficient in MS Excel, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and macros. I often use Excel to analyze large datasets and create reports, which streamlines my accounting work.
Describe a time you had to communicate complex financial information to a non-finance colleague.
I once had to explain a discrepancy in a client's invoice to a sales manager. I broke down the issue step by step, avoiding jargon, and used a simple spreadsheet to illustrate the difference. I then provided a clear resolution. The manager appreciated the clarity and we resolved the issue quickly.
Why are you interested in working for BCD Travel, and how does this role fit your career goals?
I am drawn to BCD's global presence and commitment to sustainability. This role allows me to apply my accounting skills in a dynamic industry while offering growth opportunities. I aim to advance into a senior accounting role, and BCD's emphasis on development aligns with my career aspirations.
