I am excited to apply for the Data Quality Specialist position at the University of Colorado. With a strong background in data management and a keen eye for detail, I am confident in my ability to ensure the accuracy and integrity of your donor and alumni records.

In my previous role, I successfully implemented data quality processes that reduced errors by 20% and improved reporting reliability. I am skilled in using CRMs, performing data audits, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain data governance standards.

I am particularly drawn to this opportunity because of the University's commitment to fostering an inclusive and mission-driven environment. I am eager to contribute to the Office of Advancement's goals and support CU's fundraising success through meticulous data stewardship.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of discussing how my skills align with the needs of your team.

Can you describe your experience with data quality tools and techniques?
I have used tools like SQL to query databases, Excel for data validation, and dedicated data quality platforms such as Talend. I regularly implement checks for duplicate records, missing values, and format inconsistencies.
How do you prioritize data quality issues when multiple requests come in?
I assess the impact on business operations and critical reporting. Issues affecting fundraising or donor relations are top priority. I also communicate with stakeholders to align on urgency and deadlines.
What is your experience working with donor or alumni databases?
I have worked with CRMs like Salesforce and Blackbaud specifically for nonprofit and educational fundraising. I understand the importance of accurate constituent records for engagement and solicitation.
How would you approach a large-scale data cleanup project?
I would start by documenting the current data quality issues, then create a plan with automated scripts and manual reviews. I'd involve stakeholders to validate data and implement ongoing monitoring to prevent future issues.
Describe a time you improved data quality processes. What was the outcome?
I implemented a deduplication routine using fuzzy matching in a CRM, which reduced duplicate records by 30%. This improved reporting accuracy and saved staff time previously spent on manual merges.
