Key Skills

Analytics Engineering Data Pipelines ETL SQL Python Data Modeling A/B Testing Dashboarding Data Quality Mentoring

I am excited to apply for the Analytics Engineer position at Reddit. With a strong background in data engineering and analytics, I have successfully built scalable data pipelines and self-service tools that empowered cross-functional teams to make data-driven decisions. My experience in collaborating with data scientists and product managers aligns perfectly with Reddit's need for a bridge between data producers and consumers.

I am particularly drawn to Reddit's mission to empower communities and the opportunity to work on consumer-facing products that impact millions of users. I have a proven track record of architecting robust data foundations and driving automation, which I believe will contribute to Reddit's data-driven culture.

I am eager to bring my technical expertise and passion for data to Reddit and help shape the data roadmap for the Consumer organization. Thank you for considering my application.

Can you describe a complex data pipeline you built from scratch? What challenges did you face and how did you ensure data quality?
I built a real-time data pipeline for user event tracking using Kafka and Spark. Challenges included handling schema changes and ensuring exactly-once processing. I implemented schema validation and idempotent writes to maintain data quality.
How do you approach designing a data model for a product feature that supports both reporting and experimentation?
I start by understanding the business questions and user actions. I design a star schema with fact tables for events and dimension tables for users and time. I ensure the model is granular enough for A/B testing and aggregated for dashboards.
Describe a time you mentored a data scientist on improving their SQL or data pipeline skills. How did you approach it?
I paired with a data scientist to refactor their SQL queries, teaching them about query optimization and window functions. I also created documentation and held office hours to address common issues.
How do you prioritize data infrastructure improvements when there are competing demands from product teams?
I align with stakeholders on business impact and effort. I use a RICE framework (Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort) to prioritize. I also advocate for foundational work that reduces future technical debt.
What tools and technologies do you use to enable data self-service for non-technical users?
I use dbt for data transformation and Looker for self-service dashboards. I also build custom Python applications for specific use cases. I focus on documentation and training to empower users.
