Key Skills

Actuarial Modeling Prophet Software Asset Liability Management Risk Based Capital Life Insurance Annuities SQL Financial Forecasting Project Management Regulatory Compliance

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in the Associate Actuary position at Ameritas. With a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science and over five years of experience in actuarial modeling, I am confident in my ability to contribute to your Corporate Actuarial Projections team. My expertise includes running asset-liability models, cash flow testing, and financial forecasting, particularly for indexed life and annuity products.

I have a proven track record of leading projects and streamlining processes to deliver accurate results in a fast-paced environment. My hands-on experience with Prophet software and strong analytical skills enable me to handle complex model validations and regulatory requirements effectively.

I am particularly drawn to Ameritas' mission of Fulfilling Life and would be thrilled to bring my technical skills and collaborative mindset to your organization. Thank you for considering my application.

Sincerely, [Your Name]

Can you describe your experience with actuarial modeling for life insurance or annuity products? Provide an example of a model you developed or ran.
In my previous role, I was responsible for running asset-liability models for a portfolio of indexed universal life products. I used Prophet to model cash flows under various interest rate scenarios, and I worked with the investment team to validate assumptions. One project involved updating the model to comply with new principle-based reserving requirements, which required careful documentation and testing.
How do you ensure the accuracy and reliability of your actuarial models?
I follow a rigorous validation process that includes dynamic and static validations. For static validation, I compare model outputs to known results, and for dynamic validation, I perform sensitivity tests and analyze changes. I also document assumptions and results thoroughly and seek peer review to catch errors. Adherence to Model Risk Management policies is key.
Describe a time when you had to communicate complex actuarial concepts to a non-technical audience. How did you approach it?
I once presented cash flow testing results to the finance committee, which included members without actuarial backgrounds. I prepared visual aids like graphs and simplified analogies, focusing on the key takeaways such as the impact of interest rate changes on reserves. I avoided jargon and encouraged questions to ensure understanding.
How do you prioritize and manage multiple projects with tight deadlines?
I use project management tools to track tasks and deadlines. I break large projects into smaller milestones and communicate with stakeholders to align expectations. In a fast-paced environment, I remain flexible and adjust priorities as needed, ensuring that critical deliverables like regulatory filings are completed on time.
What experience do you have with Prophet software? Can you discuss any challenges you've faced using it?
I have used Prophet extensively for modeling and projection work, particularly for life insurance and annuity products. One challenge was integrating new product features into existing models while maintaining performance. I addressed this by optimizing code and using parallel processing. I also collaborated with IT to ensure data feeds were efficient.
