Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to apply for the Competition Associate position at Axiom. With over 3 years of experience in antitrust and competition law at a top-tier firm, I have advised clients on merger clearances and defended cartel investigations. I am drawn to Axiom's flexible remote work model and its reputation for high-caliber legal services.

In my current role, I successfully guided a technology client through a complex ACCC merger review, ensuring compliance and a favorable outcome. I thrive in collaborative environments and have a track record of managing multiple transactions under tight deadlines.

I am eager to bring my expertise in competition law and client counseling to Axiom's dynamic team. Thank you for considering my application.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Can you describe your experience with merger clearance processes, particularly before the ACCC?
I have handled several merger filings, including preparing notifications and responding to ACCC inquiries. For example, I assisted in obtaining clearance for a major telecom merger by addressing competition concerns through behavioral undertakings.
How would you approach advising a client on potential cartel conduct issues?
I would first conduct a thorough factual investigation and market analysis. Then, I would advise on the risks under the Competition and Consumer Act, and if necessary, recommend self-reporting to the ACCC for leniency.
Describe a time you managed a litigation matter in competition law. What was the outcome?
I worked on a private antitrust case involving abuse of market power. Our team successfully negotiated a settlement that avoided prolonged litigation, saving the client significant costs and preserving business relationships.
How do you stay current with developments in competition law?
I subscribe to key legal journals, attend conferences, and participate in webinars. I also follow ACCC guidance and enforcement trends to provide proactive advice to clients.
This role requires autonomy but also collaboration. Can you give an example of how you balance both?
In a recent project, I was responsible for drafting the competition analysis for a transaction while coordinating with partners and client contacts. I independently managed the timeline but sought input on strategic issues, ensuring both efficiency and quality.
