Sample interview questions
Describe your process for conducting a learning needs analysis for a technical course.

I start by meeting with stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify business goals and learner gaps. Then I analyze the target audience's existing knowledge and tasks. I prioritize outcomes based on impact and feasibility, and document findings to guide course design.

How do you ensure complex technical content is accessible to beginners?

I break down concepts into smaller learning objectives, use analogies and real-world examples, and incorporate interactive exercises. I also avoid jargon and provide glossaries. Iterative feedback from learners helps me refine clarity.

Can you give an example of a time you collaborated with a subject matter expert who was difficult to work with?

I had an SME who was very busy and provided dense technical notes. I scheduled short, focused meetings to extract key points and showed them draft content for quick feedback. I also used a shared document for asynchronous input, which reduced friction.

What experience do you have with AI tools in instructional design?

I regularly use ChatGPT to generate initial drafts of explanations and practice questions, but always review and customize for accuracy and alignment. I also use AI to brainstorm scenarios and simulate learner responses.

How do you measure the effectiveness of a course you designed?

I use a combination of learner feedback surveys, completion rates, pre- and post-assessment scores, and on-the-job performance metrics when available. I also conduct periodic reviews to update content based on data and emerging needs.
